POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Slides from last night, teaching students in the Soldiers To Sidelines program. This is how I see things:

We are terrifying as a species. We’ve been raised on the notion that it was our ability to communicate, our ability to use tools that set us apart from the animals. Unity.

These are truths, but physically, we are a TERROR. Our ability to use oxygen as an energy substrate is unparalleled. Our ability to sweat dwarfs anything else on the planet. The tiger has its claws, but we have an engine.

Framed through that lens, we talk about how it could be enhanced, and the expressions observed through practice.

Slides don’t have to be dry. It’s your performance, put on a show. We’ll talk more about conditioning on the SPP.

🏈 Day 2 of 4 | @soldierstosidelines

Another great day of the Sports Performance Coaching Certification!

Today we covered speed, power, conditioning, movement mechanics, and what it takes to be an effective coach.

Biggest takeaway: Coaching isn’t just about knowing the game. It’s about connecting with your players, communicating, and helping them get better.

Even after years on the sidelines, there’s always more to learn!

Two days down, two to go! 💪

🇺🇸🏈 Day 1 of 4 with @soldierstosidelines for their Sports Performance Coaching Certification!

Great first day covering motivation, leadership, strength, speed, conditioning, nutrition, and recovery.

One thing that really stuck with me today was the importance of getting athletes to buy into what we’re doing because THEY want to, not just because we tell them to.

Always something new to learn, no matter how long you’ve been coaching. Looking forward to the next three days!

NEW EPISODE: 149 - Hard of Listening

Jeff Fisher shared a story at the 2026 Soldiers to Sidelines Summit about a cornerback who cost his Titans a football game. The player heard his assignment, said "I gotcha, coach," and got it completely wrong. That gap, between hearing and listening, is the subject of this episode.

Tex breaks down what actually separates the two, why "got it" from a captain is a reflex and not proof of anything, and what to do instead. That includes a teach-back method for high-pressure moments, a framework for building shared language with your leaders before the season starts, and a story Tex heard Jeff Fisher tell live, about a group of hearing-impaired kids who never missed a word.

Most people aren't hard of hearing. They're hard of listening. This episode is about closing that gap before it costs you a game, or a season.

NEW EPISODE: 146 - Conquer Loss Aversion & the Locker Room w/ Dr Ben Freakley

What happens when a team stops playing to win and starts playing not to lose?

Dr. Ben Freakley, Certified Mental Performance Consultant and founder of Ready Set Resilient, knows this shift firsthand.

In this episode, Tex and Ben dig into the two balls every coach has to juggle (the team and the individual), the "sustain, stop, start" halftime framework that gives players ownership of the solutions, and what separates leadership in a locker room from leadership on a battlefield. It's a conversation about loss aversion, trust, and what it really takes to build a team that plays brave under pressure.

I appreciate what I do and what I've done, but when you ask me my most fulfilling work, it's helping to elevate fellow veterans in the coaching game.

@soldierstosidelines is a non profit who's whole aim is that-exposing them to knowledge from real heavy hitters in the industry. They sent me this unannounced, and I really appreciate it.
