this review🥹“Candice Hoyes’ “Expecting” moves through jazz, soul, memory, love, and Black musical lineage with a sense of patience and ceremony.

Across the record, Hoyes draws on what she calls the “Black feminine divine,” placing her voice in conversation with figures like Maya Angelou and Minnie Riperton while shaping that lineage into something distinctly her own.

The album features an expansive cast including Makaya McCraven, Brandee Younger, Junius Paul, Keyon Harrold, Courtney Bryan, and more.” Rp @bandcamp 🥹🥹🥹

For over 30 years, A to Z Media has helped artists and labels turn music into physical media that fans actually want to hold, play, and collect. In our Making Stuff Up series, we sit down with the label, artists, and creators who inspire us by pushing the boundaries of vinyl, CDs, and merch. 🎶❤️‍🔥

In this installment, we’re talking with Lio Kanine from @kaninerecords, a label that has been a cornerstone of the NYC indie scene since 2003. From their first DIY compilation to releases for Grizzly Bear, Chairlift, and more, Lio’s approach is rooted in a pure love for the art and craft of working with artists to bring their vision to life on physical media.

Bonus fun: our sister company, @solidmerch, is sponsoring the @bandsdobk x @newcolossusfestival party in NYC this Friday, March 6th. @liokanine is a co-founder of The New Colossus Festival, and this event will be the perfect place to talk shop, see some incredible new bands, and celebrate a worldwide indie music community.
