A new sack lands at a place that has been waiting for it. Not the end of the long way, a stop, a pause, a continuation. Late afternoon, in Al-Zahra, the bag opens — Baba Budan, the new lot, the first cups already moving. The green came from Mysore four hundred years ago — by way of a beard, by way of Yemen before that, by way of every cup that has followed since. By way of this one, with an oud on its side. Yemen guarded the crop for lomg. A Sufi crossed back with seven beans in his beard — the 1670s, the long way home. He planted them in the hills of Chikmagalur. Seven beans became a forest. A forest became an industry. An industry became this cup, four hundred years on, in Jeddah, late afternoon. Phillip (@phillip_brews) at the roaster, tattooed arm reaching into the tray, fresh beans cooling under it. While Soli (@soliamerol) at the bar, milk poured, the art finished, the next cup already in hand. It all starts somewhere. This one took the long way. And it will keep going. #youwillbeheard #thelongway
