So happy to finally have my @ohdeeremily shrine sitting pride of place with little Ilse ghost front and centre 🥹

The Horrors We Harbour review 🌊

Thank you so much @solsticebooksuk for the most AMAZING proof! This is one of my all time favourites! Thank you so much @ohdeeremily for writing a story that has etched its way into my brain that has forever changed my thought process.

This is the perfect read for any season but particularly for the spooky one, buckle up and prepare for something you’ve never experienced before 🌊

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Most lighthouses are a promise of sanctuary. My lighthouse is a threat.”

Honestly, this opening line sold me immediately, and the story delivered everything it promised.
This book is dark, eerie, and dripping with atmosphere. An isolated island, a lighthouse keeping unimaginable horrors at bay, sea monsters lurking beneath the waves, and a community spiralling into fear and superstition... I was hooked from the very first page.

What I loved most was that beneath all the horror and mystery, this is really a story about people. Guin’s determination to save Catrin gave the story so much heart, and their relationship added an emotional weight that made every danger feel real. I found myself desperately hoping they would find a way through the chaos together.

The island itself felt like a character. The growing paranoia, the return to old traditions, and the willingness of ordinary people to embrace cruelty out of fear created a sense of dread that lingered throughout the entire book. There were moments that genuinely made me uncomfortable, but in the best possible way.
If you love folk horror, creepy coastal settings, sapphic romance, monstrous secrets, and stories where the atmosphere is just as powerful as the plot, I cannot recommend this enough.

This was haunting, unsettling, and impossible to put down. And now I’m pretty sure I’ll never look at a lighthouse the same way again. 🌊🕯️

Swipe ➡️ to see pictures of this beautiful Lighthouse I came across whilst down in Wales. I definitely regret leaving The Horrors We Harbour at home as it would have been a beautiful picture with them both in it.

💬 What’s your favourite folk horror novel? I need more atmospheric, unsettling reads!

✨ Have you ever used a bookish stamp in any of your fave books? ✨

I reserve my stamps for my absolute favourite books, ones that I know I will reread and enjoy for many years to come, and that have a special place in my heart. I knew immediately after finishing TimeLess by A F Steadman that this story was going to remain in my very soul, so it definitely earned a stamp! I’ll also be stamping the special edition that I have on preorder 🤭

TimeLess is such a unique read, blending time travel and magic within a dark academic setting, with gripping plot twists and numerous beautifully-crafted characters. I’ll never get over how wonderful Steadman’s writing is. I was hooked by the first page, and I will absolutely be continuing on with the series as the books come out.

✍️ Publishing: 11th March 2027.

Thank you so much to @solsticebooksuk and @afsteadmanauthor for sending me an ARC of this gorgeous book in exchange for an honest review. This has been the greatest honour, I will be forever grateful! ✨ #TimeLess #SolsticeBooks #AFSteadman

✧₊⁺🕯⋆.˚୨ৎ Souls in Ruin ✧₊⁺🕯⋆.˚୨ৎ

i genuinely had to sit and face the wall for a few hours after finishing this book, wow indeed! That ending omg, it literally chewed me up and spat me right out, I need book two IMMEDIATELY!

I absolutely love a bad ass FMC and Mireille is the BADEST of them all, everything that she went through and still absolutely showed up and fought for everything she believe in, she is my queen

This book absolutely left me on my toes the whole time and made me feel things for all of our main characters, like how can evil be so sexy? There is no morally grey in this books it is straight up BLACK

this was absolutely unapologetically dark but it made our characters so much more layered and absolutely tore my heart to shreds!

~ arranged marriage
~ dark gothic fantasy
~ potential love triangle 👀
~ feminine rage

I would genuinely sell my SOUL to get a sneak peak at book two because WHAT DO YOU MEAN it ends like that! Phenomenal

“If I smell him on you again, Princess, I’ll rip every vein from his body and string you a necklace... A wedding gift, if you will.”

thank you to the amazing @solsticebooksuk for the early copy and thank you @jacwhite.author for emotionally torturing me💛

coming November 3rd

all the love my lovelies ~ A x

This is for the readers who love a strong female main character who won’t break 💪🏽⛓️

After being arranged in marriage to the feared Blood King, Mireille is imprisoned by the very one who was supposed to free her from her shackles. She finds herself caught between two very powerful, very mysterious, beings, all while struggling to survive.

Mireille is an absolute weapon. Girl’s got a backbone after everything she goes through in this book. This was dark, and it almost felt like there was no end in sight at many points. The feminine rage started at 💯 in this book, but it’s about to dial all the way up after the way things ended.

I love a character-driven story, and the love triangle made for such an emotional and dangerous read 🖤

Souls in Ruin is out on the 3rd of November, and you better run to get your hands on the first print deluxe edition with the most decadent red gilded edges ❣️

Thank you to @solsticebooksuk for gracing me with this lovely proof!

Today, @solsticebooksuk publish the UK paperback edition of ON SUNDAYS SHE PICKS FLOWERS by Yah Yah Scholfield! A sinister and surreal Southern Gothic debut, described as ‘Lone Women meets Sorrowland,’ it is the story of a woman who escapes her family home to the uncanny woods of northern Georgia and must now contend with the myriad horrors and threats of the woods. Here’s the full synopsis…

When Judith Rice ran away from the house she grew up in, she thought she severed her abusive mother’s hold on her. Seventeen years later, she’s made a home for herself in a cottage secluded deep in the forests of northern Georgia. Jude believes she’s settled into a quiet life.

But when an enigmatic woman shows up on her doorstep, Jude’s tentative peace is threatened by the stranger’s presence. The woman is beautiful but unsettling, captivating but uncanny. Caught between her desire for this woman and the violence that seems to simmer just beneath her skin, Jude’s past and present clash as the woman stirs up memories that force her to reckon with the violence of her escape years ago.

Haunting and thought-provoking, On Sundays She Picked Flowers is a propulsive debut exploring retribution, family trauma and the power of building oneself back up after breaking down.

‘Most lighthouses are a promise of sanctuary. My lighthouse is a threat.’
- The Horrors We Harbour by Emily Cooper

Guinevere has one job: keep the lighthouse of Ynys Halen going. The waters around her remote island are full of monsters — the tidewraiths that lurk in the shallows, the leviathan that bellows in the depths — and the beacon is all that stops them from coming ashore and ravaging the island’s small community. One night, however, Guin slips up and the light goes out.

Soon the islanders decide to return to the old ritual sacrifice of the Salt Queen — a maiden tied to the stake on the shore and left to drown to appease the god Llyr — and the first candidate chosen is Catrin Morgan, one of three odd orphaned sisters with whom Guin has long nourished a strange attachment that goes beyond friendship. The Morgan sisters flee to the lighthouse, which Guin barricades against the men of the island. And that’s when the real horrors start.

I was once briefly marooned at a lighthouse, which was an Experience. It’s probably why I’m so drawn to lighthouse novels — To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf and the Southern Reach books by Jeff VanderMeer being to my mind the paramount examples of this, in vastly different ways. The Horrors We Harbour is by far the grisliest lighthouse novel I’ve read to date. (Not to spoil too much but there is, ah, a fair bit of cannibalism.) I appreciate how @ohdeeremily’s background as a marine scientist comes through in the prose — metaphors of jellyfish, conger eel, coral, and so on.

Thank you to @solsticebooksuk for this review copy!
