One of the strangest things about midlife is realizing that what used to work may not work anymore.

The way you ate. The way you exercised. How much you could take on before feeling depleted. Even the way you motivated yourself.

It can be frustrating, especially when you feel like you’re doing the things you’re “supposed” to do and your body still isn’t responding the way you expect.

Alison and I have both tried a lot of things over the years. Different ways of eating and exercising, different routines, supplements and approaches. Some helped. Some didn’t. And what worked at one point didn’t always continue to work as our bodies changed.

What we’ve both learned is how important it is to listen to your own body.

Over time, we’ve each found routines, ways of moving, foods and supplements that genuinely support us. Not because we discovered one perfect formula, but because we started paying attention to how our bodies responded and became willing to adjust.

Alison and I had to learn that this season isn’t about pushing harder or being more disciplined. It’s about getting curious about what has changed and being willing to support myself differently.

Maybe your body isn’t failing you. Maybe it’s simply asking for something different now.

We’d love to know: what has surprised you most about your body or health in midlife?

Aludon and I will be talking more about this during our free Zoom info night on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. If you’d like to join us, comment MIDLIFE and we’ll send you the link.

Midlife doesn’t mean you have to settle for feeling tired, bloated, foggy, or frustrated with your body. 🤍

Sometimes, the strategies that worked in our 20s and 30s simply don’t work the same way anymore—and that’s okay.

Your body is changing. Your nutrition, movement, sleep, stress management, and daily habits may need to change with it.

✨ You don’t need another restrictive diet.
✨ You don’t need to start over every Monday.
✨ You need a plan that works with your body—not against it.

That’s where I come in. As a holistic nutritionist and wellness coach, I’m here to help you navigate midlife with practical, sustainable strategies so you can feel stronger, more energized, and confident in yourself again.

You don’t have to figure it all out alone.

Ready to make this your next chapter? 💫
Send me a DM with “MIDlife” and let’s start the conversation.

What Affects Glycemic Load? 🍌🥗

When it comes to blood sugar, it’s not just what carbohydrate you eat—it’s also how much, how ripe, how it’s prepared, and how processed it is.

Here are 4 key factors that can influence glycemic load:

🥣 SERVING SIZE
The larger the portion of carbohydrate, the greater the potential impact on glycemic load.

🍌 RIPENESS
As fruit ripens, its carbohydrate structure changes. For example, a ripe yellow banana generally has a greater blood-sugar impact than a less-ripe green banana.

🔥 COOKING METHODS
Cooking can affect how quickly carbohydrates are digested. Longer cooking and some high-heat methods can increase the glycemic response, while gentler cooking and avoiding overcooking may help keep it lower.

🌾 FOOD PROCESSING
Highly refined carbohydrates, such as white flour products, are generally digested more quickly than whole or minimally processed carbohydrate sources.

✨ You don’t have to fear carbohydrates—you need to understand them.

Choosing whole foods, being mindful of portions, pairing carbohydrates with protein, healthy fats and fibre, and focusing on minimally processed foods can all support more balanced blood sugar and sustained energy.

Small choices can make a BIG difference in your health and wellness—especially as we age. 💚

NOT ALL BODY FAT IS THE SAME… and understanding this could completely change how you approach your health.

Many women think body fat is simply about weight gain or loss.

But here’s what most people don’t realize: there are different types of body fat—and each one affects your body differently.

Let’s break it down:

✨ WHITE FAT (White Adipose Tissue)
This is the most common fat in adults.
Its job? To store energy for later use.

You’ll find it:
✔ Under the skin
✔ Around organs

In healthy amounts, white fat is normal and necessary.
Too much, however, can increase the risk of metabolic issues and chronic disease.

🔥 BROWN FAT (Brown Adipose Tissue)
This is your body’s metabolic helper.

Unlike white fat, brown fat actually burns calories to create heat.

You’ll find it mostly around:
✔ Neck
✔ Shoulders

Brown fat becomes more active in colder temperatures and may help support metabolism.

⚠️ VISCERAL FAT (Deep Belly Fat)
This is the one we want to pay close attention to.

Visceral fat sits deep inside the abdomen, surrounding your internal organs.

Why does it matter?

Because excess visceral fat is strongly linked to:
❌ Insulin resistance
❌ Increased inflammation
❌ Hormonal imbalance
❌ Higher risk of heart disease & type 2 diabetes

Here’s the key:

➡️ White fat stores energy
➡️ Brown fat burns energy
➡️ Visceral fat can harm your health

And this is why the scale doesn’t tell the whole story.

You can be focused on “losing weight,” but what really matters is improving body composition and metabolic health.

So what can you do?

✔ Strength train to build lean muscle and reduce visceral fat
✔ Incorporate HIIT to target stubborn deep belly fat
✔ Eat balanced meals with protein, fiber, and healthy fats to reduce inflammation
✔ Prioritize sleep because poor sleep disrupts hormones and fat storage

Your goal shouldn’t just be to weigh less.

Your goal should be to build a body that is stronger, healthier, and metabolically resilient.

Which type of fat had you never heard of before—white, brown, or visceral? Drop it below 👇
