I thought it was time to reintroduce myself here, on this weird and wonderful platform we call social media.

My full name is Sarsha Marie Hope.

And yes, before you ask, Hope is my actual maiden name, proudly inherited from my Grandad, who was one of the most wonderful humans I have ever known.

I am a mother of three incredible grown-up humans.

They are my children and also some of my best friends. At 19, 22 and 26, they still want to spend a ridiculous amount of time with me, and I feel incredibly grateful for that.

I am the founder of Somatic Dance International, a school that teaches people how to lead others back into their soma, their bodies, how to DJ and create sonic soundscapes that support conscious dance floors, and how to hold all of this through a trauma-aware lens.

Over the years I have supported hundreds of humans to learn how to skilfully hold space and facilitate somatic dance floors.

It began in a small church hall in Queenstown with six people on my dance floor.

Today there are regular somatic dances in more than 15 locations across Aotearoa New Zealand and in more than a dozen locations around the globe.

Sometimes I look at that and think, how the fuck did that happen?

I am in awe of how this medicine of Somatic Dance has grown and spread, and incredibly grateful for the epic humans who make up this community.

I am also a self-professed feminist.

No, that does not mean I hate men.

I love men. A LOT. 😂

But from a young age I had a burning curiosity about gender roles and why penis owners seemed to have more rights, authority and opportunities than vagina owners in so much of the world.

That curiosity has sent me on a lifelong research project into what it means to be a woman.

Into patriarchy.
Power.
Gender.
Religion.
The body.
Sexuality.
Shame.
The Goddess.
