Eternal Renewal is an exploration of the resilience of the spirit, and the transience of the body. The project is informed by the trauma of artists Tessa Croke and Maclaine Black, both victims of sexual assault. The foundation of the project is the idea that the skin cells renew and replace themselves every seven years, and so, eventually, a body will exist that has not been touched by the perpetrator. The fingerprints on the skin, painted on by Tessa represent all the experiences, good and bad, that a person carries with them, etched both into the skin and the psyche.

For both Maclaine and Tessa, this year and next year respectively marks seven years since the assault, and thus an untouched body is on the horizon.

Poetry be Tessa below.

Did you know that every seven years, the cells in your entire body will be destroyed and replaced with new ones. I can’t wait for that day. The 9th of September 2027. One day I will have a body that you will have never touched. Maybe someday I’ll go back to normal. Maybe someday skin on skin will fill me with joy rather than fear and dark memories. Maybe one day, I’ll be comfortable in my own skin again. One day.

For #earthday I wanted to unlock the time capsule and share a @letterstotheearth_ poem I wrote when I was 17, “A place I call home” (slide 2&3) I was lucky enough for it to be published alongside other youth activists.
( you can still grab the book online “Letters to the Earth: Writing to a Planet in Crisis”)

As a present homage to the pachamama I hold dearest I selected this look to begin my series of “Pachamama on canvas”.
The plant that inspired this look is ‘Calethea Makoyana’ native to the tropical rainforest of South America, which I photographed last year at @kewgardens Peruvian orchid festival.

Ever since I got into makeup my way to describe what drove that passion was that I see the face as a canvas and creating editorial makeup looks for me reflected that, my first ever “out there” makeup look I did as an early teen was inspired by the hues of the holographic green-pink tones pigeons have on their neck, nature/mother earth ( pachamama) has always been my makeup inspiration.
