I am just an independent artist that wants to use her art to speak up about what I believe in… right now, for everyone that looks like me, it’s time to check our privilege. We live in a world where some have nothing and others have everything at their expense… where some of us, wether we like it or not, are favoured by this systemic racism that’s a shadow that consumes others so a few can have access to everything we want. We need to learn how to humble ourselves and we need to be ready to recognise our privilege, our history of oppression and colonialism, so we can help create a better world for everyone. Our silence is violence, we can’t just stay quiet cause something doesn’t directly affect us or our relatives, we can’t just live in complete ignorance no matter the consequences, so that we don’t have to take accountability for our actions and our everyday choices. We need to be ready to use our privilege to advocate for liberation, not to tell anyone how to fight their fights, but rather we need to really learn how to be an ally. For any POC especially in the US ( where I moved to years ago), Political Disempowerment, widespread discriminatory public and private lending policies and practices, stark racial patterning of incarceration and more are an everyday struggle that no white person will ever have to go thought or will ever understand, but that doesn’t mean that we have to accept this systemic racism. In the US our taxes are currently financing a genocide in Palestine, Congo is being destroyed because we prioritise having the latest model of Iphone in our hands at expense of people’s lives. We can’t continue living in denial and ignore our implication and the way we currently benefit from other people’s suffering, we need to walk towards dismantling the current patterns and systems of oppression. There’s “Blood on our hands”…
