THE CAT CAME FIRST.
Not the blouse.
Not the print.
The cat.

Meet Melvin, Cally’s rescue cat and the unlikely muse behind our new Cool Cat print.

Melvin has his own little corner of the internet, where he helps raise awareness (and funds!) for NYC-area street cats. So when we turned his story into a print, it seemed only right that the clothes should help his friends, too.

100% of net profits from the Cool Cat print go directly to NYC-area cat rescue.

Swipe through to meet the cat behind the clothes. 🐈

And say hello to Melvin over at @somethingaboutmelvin

The Cool Cats are available now online and at our NYC showroom.

13 years ago we moved into our house in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, and within the first week we discovered two mother cats sitting on our deck with 3 kittens each waiting for a handout: “Mama” a tuxedo and Gray Gray a sleek Russian Blue. (Our kind neighbors Dave and Alyse were out of town and not there to feed them.)

The two cats were very bonded – they were born under our next-door neighbor’s deck and we suspect that Mama may have been Gray Gray’s mother.

Gray Gray was what Sassee from our film called “An Originator” - she got us into doing TNR and eventually making our film about 4 great Brooklyn rescuers: Tara, Sassee, Claire and Stu.

While Gray Gray tolerated the other outdoor cats, she became a loner after Mama passed and visibly mourned her absence. She spent much of the last year of her life next door on Larry and Elise’s deck, coming to eat every morning and evening and camp out in front of the sliding glass door. Normally shy, she regularly hung out next to the table whenever we ate outside, hoping for a handout - turns out Larry gave her a taste for human food. Elise also fed her when she decided not to stroll over. We all spoiled her in our own ways.

Gray Gray was a fixture in our lives for 13 years - part of the gang of 14 that has dwindled now to three. We made sure that she and her mates had security and warm shelters during the winters. Our deck and backyard were their home. Thanks to our neighbor Cally and “Melvin’s Outdoor Cat Vet Fund”, we also got them occasional vet care. Gray Gray was one of the healthiest. We thought she’d be the last one standing. But life is often unpredictable.

Our back porch and garden feels a lot lonelier today. 13 years - we’d grown accustomed to her face.
Rest in Peace dear Gray Gray, aka GiGi. We miss you.

🐈‍⬛🐈 PS: We are collecting donations in her memory for Melvin’s Vet Care Fund. He’s a rescue cat now living next door - a dumped friendly committed to paying it forward. Link in Bio.🙏🏼

Our ingenious next door neighbor Larry built an igloo on his deck for the outdoor cats. How he built it in the 2nd photo. That’s GrayGray (or GiGi) inside on this blustery frigid Brooklyn day.

We often wonder what Louis was like as a kitten and the first 10 years of his life. I can’t imagine how hard it must have been for his family to leave him at that veterinary hospital. As nice of a cat as he is, I believe they were just trying to give him a chance to live because they couldn’t afford the treatment. They couldn’t have known he would linger in the shelter. Yes, we missed his kittenhood and his first decade, but we sure do love him as if he were ours all along, and are so happy to call hm ours. Adopt a senior cat, y’all. They need you, and you need them. #seniorcat #adoptdontshop #adoptaseniorcat #orangecat
