The arm of the Undertaker sticks out of the ground after being buried alive at In Your House 11!

How did they do it?

"It’s magic”, claimed Bruce Prichard, who refused to reveal to Something to Wrestle listeners how it was done

Jim Ross was more willing to say on his podcast:

"Safety first - that was quite the structure, little underground tunnels and all that stuff.

"I never got in there to see as I thought someone would rib my ass and shut the doors or something, so I didn’t investigate"

Bruce initially wanted a match between the Undertaker and Mankind in a graveyard, but realised it would be boring for fans in attendance watching on screens - so he suggested a match that started in the ring, but would end in the grave

This buried alive gimmick, the lightning and the hand sticking out was all Prichard's ideas:

"Absolutely loved it. There were so many things about it. And you go back and you look at it... I loved every bit of it. I loved the visual of it and the the 'holy shit'-ness of it"

“I know Mark [Calaway] thought we were crazy”, Prichard said

The idea here at In Your House: Mind Games was to give ECW national exposure for their first PPV, revealed Bruce Prichard...

...But the WWF wrestlers thought it was a real fight:

“No-one was to be smartened up because we wanted real reactions

“And what I didn’t really anticipate, Goofy Sandman going as far as he did, banging the damn beer on his head and all that stuff

“I told Paul, ‘get thrown out, but don’t get in a fight with anybody’

“And so they do their deal where they throw the beer and Savio’s there, and our people come down and they’re taking them out

“And I’m getting into it with Paul and here comes Jerry Brisco and Jerry is ready to kill somebody. Jerry jumps over the damn barricade to go after him

“We had a stupid codeword: Bockwinkel [which was Paul Heyman's idea]

“Jerry looked at me [when he heard the codeword] like, ‘You motherfucker’

“And at that moment, I knew Jerry wanted to kill me. And I was thankful I was on the other side of the barricade

“I came to the back and I come to the back and the whole locker room is basically on the other side of Gorilla

“Taker puts his arm around me and we went in Vince’s office. He says, ‘Hey, man, you almost had a real bad scene there. I guess you got to let me know you’re going to do shit like that’

“I said, ‘OK, yes sir’. Because the boys were ready to go out and do whatever they had to do

“Jerry and I didn’t talk for a few days because he was pissed”

All the while Vince ignores the kerfuffle going on at ringside (he of course knew the plan), while calling this less interesting Bradshaw vs Savio Vega strap match

The next night on Raw, Taz jumps the barrier...

Highly recommend listening to Bruce tell this anecodote on his @somethingtowrestle podcast - on YouTube or pod provider. Had a big smile on my face hearing him tell it again!

Proud patriot Bradshaw had told the terrorists behind 9/11: “We’re going to make whatever country that’s hiding you into a stinking parking lot”

He made that vow on the SmackDown, two days after the terrorist atrocities

Bruce Prichard said on his Something To Wrestle podcast:

“When he finished in that arena, it was a standing ovation and ‘USA!’ chants

“That was one of the best promos [of the show]. That was John Layfield the man speaking”

On this week’s show, John doubled down on his remarks:

“I got a little bit heat over it a couple of years later: ‘Was it too strong?’ No, it wasn’t ‘too strong’. They attacked us in and I wanted revenge

“And to this day, I still feel the exact same way - and I was glad I got to say something”

Her statement comes just two days after 9/11, with SmackDown airing live from Houston, Texas - the first major live gathering since the terror attacks

Bruce Prichard explained on his Something To Wrestle podcast as to why Stephanie McMahon would make such a comparison:

“You know, it was what it was. It’s how she felt that, and you can’t judge someone on how they either talk about tragedy or sorrow or anything like that

“Everybody has their own personal way of mourning and grieving and comparing it to what have you

“I will never look at 9/11 without correlating it to my own personal situation with my wife and her cancer and that being the day that someone gave me hope. So in the midst of all this tragedy, I was delivered a message of hope

“I think that Stephanie correlated in how she correlated. She gave an honest feeling, that’s how she felt"

When Bruce declared that:
"If you’ve ever had your family dragged through what they were dragged through, maybe you’d feel the same way”

Co-host Conrad Thompson replied: “I would not compare it to 3,000 people being mass murdered”

Bruce: “You don’t know that”

Conrad: “No, I do know that. I would think that”

As far as I can find, she has never publicly talked about these very controversial comments, though has praised her dad for his "patriotic" speech to open that show
