Day 12 - Kumamoto, Japan

Huge shoutout to Mai-san for the fantastic road trip and for showing us around! Buns and I had a blast exploring Kumamoto, where we checked out the results of the Kumamoto Revival Project. This project was a collaboration between the Kumamoto Prefecture and Eiichiro Oda, the talented manga artist from Kumamoto who created the legendary (and one of my faves) ONE PIECE.

After the devastating 2016 earthquake, Oda-san kicked off the One Piece Kumamoto Revival Project to help the area bounce back. As part of this initiative, ten bronze statues of One Piece characters were placed throughout Kumamoto Prefecture. These statues are not just cool attractions; they symbolize the region's recovery and have drawn in tons of fans and tourists. We highly recommend this experience to all One Piece fans!

Mai-san filled us in on all the beautiful aspects of Kumamoto. Honestly, it’s just as nice as Nagasaki for living, and we’re definitely planning to come back to discover more. We also made two new friends today, Mai-San, who is a local, and Sonia-San, who’s visiting from Germany. We hope to see you both again in the future!

6. Franky - Takamori Town, Takamori Station
7. Nami - Nishihara Village, Tawarayama Kouryukan Moenosato
8. Sanji - Mashiki Town, Minateras
9. Brook - Mifune Town, Fureai Hiroba
10. Jinbe - Uto City, Sumiyoshi Seaside Park
11. We drove through Mt. Aso, Japan's largest active volcano and one of the biggest in the world. Mount Aso is located in a massive caldera, which is one of the largest globally, measuring 18 km from east to west and 25 km from north to south. It's really big!
12. Total distance covered: 4.57 miles walking and about 200 kilometers driving.

Si conclude un weekend intenso. ✨
Iniziato con un viaggio a Berlino (niente di nuovo per chi mi conosce) per andare alla FORSE laurea di mia sorella.
Perché in Germania non ti dicono se sei laureata fino al momento della proclamazione… una specie di “👍🏻 o 👎🏻” degli antichi romani.
Fortunatamente (o forse per bravura e meriti 🤔) il suo pollice è stato diretto verso l’alto, e lei CE L’HA FATTA.
Ce l’ha fatta mentre manteneva da sola un bambino dai 3 ai 6 anni; in una città immensa, senza nessuno che potesse aiutarla qualora ne avesse avuto bisogno. Senza dimenticare che ha affrontato una causa, problemi di salute, un trasloco con lavori di ristrutturazione e mille altre avventure (per i più curiosi: trovate maggiori dettagli nel post pubblicato da lei).
Il proseguo è da censurare, ma ribadisco l’orgoglio e i complimenti a (quel maiale) di MIA SORELLA. ❤️

2022 was a year of the highest highs and some very deep lows. I learned the hard way that sometimes, life just happens and there’s nothing you can do. After a rollercoaster of a year I hope 2023 will be the year of healing and refocusing.
