2023 was a year of big moves for me. After starting off the year with a calf injury and having to pull out of spring racing I wasn't super excited about what the year would bring. I took recovery slow and steady and allowed myself the time I needed to heal. It wasn't easy. The injury however, in it’s own way, forcing me to step away from racing, opened up a door I wasn't even aware of yet.

Then, in June I coached my first solo beginner mountain bike day for @bourbon_in_a_teacup and friends. I quickly forgot all about racing and what the injury made me miss. That day also brought Amanda and Alex at @trail_depot into my life. I don’t think I would have taken this leap to finally start my own coaching business if it wasn't for the three of them. I’m forever grateful for the pushes and the guidance of my friends and family who believe in me. I really couldn't do it without the team of people who support me and my dreams. Especially all of the support I received behind the scenes.

I had the privilege of coaching 26 amazing mountain bikers between then and now. Riders who have been on two wheels longer than I’ve been alive and riders who were just getting on a bike for the first time. Each one of them left with new tools and more confidence and that’s all I’ve ever wanted.

In 2018 I said one day I was going to pass on the tools I was given; The ability to ride with control and confidence built on a strong foundation of skills and maneuvers, that allow a rider to enjoy the trail not just survive it. In 2023 I did just that.

I can not wait to see what 2024 will bring.

Happy New Year Friends

The Olney Invitational Tennis Tournament! (Part 1), Olney Manor Park, Olney, Maryland, USA, 9/24/2022

Today was finally showtime! The Second Olney Invitational Tennis Tournament has started! As a host for this event, and as a representative for the Olney and Maryland tennis communities, this event is a both a way to showcase the tennis communities of our area, as well as bringing players of all levels together for the sport that we all love in a competitive yet friendly format. This was the cumulative effort of my friends Jim, Curtis, myself, and many others!

The first day of this event was an extremely busy one: we had 80 people playing our various brackets of tennis, covering all categories of play. We started this at 8:00 am and had a revolving door of players for their respective matches. We ended the day at about 6:30 pm - all matches except the Finals completed successfully!

I was in charge of troubleshooting problems, making sure that the matches started smoothly, making sure that players outside match play were being well rested and refreshed, and helping out with score keeping, courts navigation and volunteer guidance.

The weather was excellent! It started in the high 40s and went up to the 70s - perfect environment!

I will be showcasing the various players and peoples of the tournament in my next post.

For those who came to the main day of the tournament, a big Thank You for your participation! I hope that every player was entertained, as well as having the best hospitality that my group can offer.

Please enjoy the pictures and video of the event! More will come in the next post!
