Producer Drew Schlingman on co-producing Best Idea from SEMMELWEIS. As Drew reveals, it’s the track I almost decided to cut, and now it’s one of the most successful on the whole album! You really saved it Drew! #newmusic #newopera #producingmusic #semmelweis

✨For Your GRAMMY® Consideration: SEMMELWEIS by Raymond J. Lustig

Best Immersive Audio Album
Best Engineered Album, Classical
Best Contemporary Classical Album
Best Opera Recording

🎵Stream the Album:
https://ffm.to/semmelweis

A 65-minute song cycle by composer Raymond J. Lustig and librettist Matthew Doherty, produced by the composer and Maximilien Hein, and released on Sono Luminus, SEMMELWEIS is inspired by a pivotal moment in medical history, and the tragic figure who was its visionary.

Driven primarily by female chorus, featuring soprano Charlotte Mundy, as well as song-form numbers sung by Lustig, the album also includes The Rhythm Method string quartet. Conceived for a studio-driven sound palette, and crafted in immersive audio alongside Grammy-winning engineer Daniel Shores, SEMMELWEIS is an evocation of the doctor’s inner psyche at his life’s end—part fever dream, part requiem, part lullaby.

“…haunted…sublimely eclectic…a gorgeous, thoroughly original creation with the gravity of Dido’s Lament…presented in luminous, finely detailed sound.” (Gramophone)

“…a formally elegant and deeply touching piece of art, and the studio engineers deserve particular credit. (AllMusic, Editor’s Choice, 5 Stars)

I had no idea to what extent my life would be shaped by fire when I started this project. I am proud of this album, & grateful for accomplishing it (w/the best team @elainemartone @gnorvila ), especially while enduring my most difficult years thus far. I appreciate fellow Recording Academy members considering to vote for it.

It’s Her Only Unboxing Day - and we are so delighted about our physical media, we can barely keep it together. Out on Friday, October 2 from @sonolummusic, where you can order your very own shiny beautiful compact disc on their website, with artwork by @lizibreit and liner notes by Doyle Armbrust, and of course, Connie’s songs. Like you’ve never heard them before. Unless you’ve never heard them before. In which case, boy oh boy, get ready. Order yours at the link in our bio.

With love,
Emmy and Ronnie

10 years ago today, Out of The Blue was released.
It's one of the albums I feel closest to. I still remember the journey to the United States to record it, the thrill of crossing the ocean with these pieces in my suitcase and arriving at Sono Luminus studios, where each of them took shape. Here are some photos from those days.

Over these ten years the album has found its own way, reaching places and people I never imagined, partly thanks to Passengers, which so many of you have made your own. But to me it remains a single story, meant to be heard from start to finish.
Thank you to everyone who has carried it with them all these years.

All my love,
Bruno
