Last weekend, not only did I get to celebrate @rubyrodstewart birthday and revisit west philly, connect with @sanctuaryfarmphila, meet some folks of @sonrevolturaphilly , I got to play with y'all too🎶

So much love and reverence for each other through music and food, communal laughter and stories. Thank you for welcoming me😊 And thank you @sliceofcamilo for capturing this moment🫶🏾

-----------

In this moment, late at night, after the birthday went to bed, while playing with dope ppl & musicians I met this same day, I thought of a mother.

I just kept hearing momma, mother, madre, mama, and it made me want to cry

You can even see as I take deep breaths to keep my lungs full so if the tears did come, I would still be able to blow air into my flute and continue to tell this story of mother

Poster designs for community workshops in Philly with @sonrevolturaphilly ☀️ spanning 2015-2025 😮 Son Revoltura is a collective learning son jarocho, an Afro-indigenous traditional music from Mexico. Another one of my main projects while in Philly, fue un honor crear tantos espacios de aprendizaje con y para la comunidad mexicana y migrante! Que siga la mata dando 🌿

I am very proud of following @sonrevolturaphilly , a community base Son Jarocho group which always support our community with their music and their voices. Been from Veracruz every time I heard them , it brings me memories of the days my parents took us to the main plaza as a kid and we witness this music first hand. Thanks for your work friends!!!! #art #music #philadelphia #fandango #songs

(español abajo) In the past week, we have watched as ICE’s violence and brutality have stolen the lives of precious community members. Last night, we gathered in grief and rage to honor those we have lost, share in our mourning, and recommit to fighting until all of our community members are free from cages and free from fear.

!!!i am in love with the earth and i am eternally grateful to the traditions i have been studying, and the people who have shared them with me, for taking me under their wings and helping me to fly. i came to take a breath at this big mama oak, and practiced a process from the pachakuti mesa tradition i am apprenticing in with @centauress - offered tobacco, wrapped myself up in deep elemental support and offered this music from the heart, and from the Son Jarocho tradition I am learning with @sonrevolturaphilly - centuries old afro-indigenous (Veracruz MEX) music of joy, connection, and resistance. thank god. there is so much magic in son jarocho and one of the best feelings is locking eyes with a friend and going deeper into the trance…. today i did that with the leaves, the clovers, the bugs, the clouds, the grasses and the winds and omg! i feel so lucky to practice reciprocity with them, and to have the tools to drop in. for me to build these connections and relations in earnest and as a beginner, the most important thing is shining from the heart, where heaven and earth are united 🌀⭐️🦋💛
