Hi it’s Sonya 👋

On our most recent “Best Bite” episode, I shared about baking an einkorn breakfast loaf recipe from my friend Adrian’s @1000bitesofbread cookbook: “Einkorn Made Easy”. I’ve been loving using Einkorn in more recipes! 🌾

I also recently enjoyed an incredible lunch @nongskhaomangai — one of my all time favorite restaurants in Portland (do yourself a favor and watch Nong’s Ted Talk for a good cry🥹)

Fall is my favorite time for tefteli (soviet-style meatballs). I love to make a big batch and freeze it. We shared the recipe on a recent Substack post — our recipe posts are always free 🍅

And I had truly one of the best bulbs of fennel I’ve ever tasted from @seriousgoosefarmspdx, which was perfect in a fennel apple salad that I also made a big batch of and enjoyed for a few days.

What was your best bite of the week???

Hi! It’s Sonya 👋 While I eat soup year-round, now is when it’s undeniably the most exciting time to cook it!

This week, @karilauritzenla and I are sharing 10 new soup recipes for the season!

Some recent favorites are the curried carrot soup from Samin Nosrat’s “Good Things”, a vegetarian chickpea noodle soup by Ali Slagle, Golden potato and greens soup from Andy Baraghani, Marcella Hazan’s famous 5-ingredient bean soup, and I didn’t mention it in the episode, but I’ve also been loving black bean soup (something I hadn’t made or eaten in years.)

And I want to try so many more soups too! Especially the ones Kari shared with me in this episode.🍲💜

What soup are you loving lately???

WHAT I EAT is so much more fun when you share with friends! i always feel inspired - and learn something new in the kitchen - when @sonyamichellesanford and i share what we’ve been cooking and eating to get through a week.

to make mornings easier, i’ve been prepping a version of overnight oats that includes coconut, chia and hemp seeds for a boost of flavor and nutrition, and i top them with whatever fruit we have in the fridge. make-ahead salads are a gift to my future self that’s rummaging around the fridge with a hungry belly, plus they can make casual hosting easier. and i’ve been on the lookout for a creamy fall pasta that relies on a can of pumpkin (one of my pantry staples), and was thrilled to find a great recipe from @feelgoodfoodie.

tune into EPISODE 318 to hear all the breakfasts, lunches, and dinners that sonya and i ate over 2 different days, and subscribe to our *free* SUBSTACK to receive all the recipe links!

do you share what you eat with your food friends?? it helps to remember all the delish meals that you’ve eaten, and just might inspire your friend too 😉

Hi, it’s Sonya! 👋

On this week’s episode, @karilauritzenla and I are sharing what we eat in for breakfast, lunch, and dinner over the course of 2 regular days.

I’m often making salads, soups, and tuna salad on a Sunday to save me during busy weeks. I also love having leftovers like ratatouille, which made for a fancy-feeling but super fast lunch!

And this week, with fall’s arrival and crisp mornings, I also found myself craving a perfectly soft-boiled egg with buttered toast points for breakfast, and the next day a good bowl of warm oatmeal topped with sautéed apples.

Tune into the full episode to hear more about how we plan and think about meals, and what recipes we’re relying on time and time again!

Beautifully braided round challahs are traditionally eaten in early fall to welcome a sweet new year, and this plum rosemary challah loaf guarantees an extra burst of stone fruit sweetness! A homemade jam from September’s plump plums is swirled into soft and sweet challah dough. Chopped fresh rosemary and demerara sugar topping the glossy loaf add a light herbal note and a sugary crunch that take the flavor over the top😋 Whether slathered with butter, dipped in honey, or eaten right from the loaf, this is the perfect challah to celebrate fall’s abundance
