@SceneNoise: Sony Music Publishing MENA brought its roster and wider community into one room in Cairo to connect, compare notes, and get clear on how publishing really works.

Launched last year, the MENA publishing team is laying the foundational infrastructure for the region’s music economy. As Managing Director Dounia Chaaban puts it, the first step is education. Through a series of workshops across MENA, their goal is to equip songwriters to learn how to protect their rights and monetize their work.

In Cairo, the session walked through the essentials: what a publisher does, how to register songs properly, why split sheets matter, and how clean metadata unlocks accurate payouts. They broke down performance vs. mechanical royalties, neighboring rights, and the admin steps that keep money from disappearing into the “black box.”

Beyond the how-to, the workshop emphasized localization and trust – meeting each market where it is, standardizing best practices, and connecting creators with regional businesses and brands. With so much talent in the region, the task now is to build a tight, trusted music industry that uplifts artists’ work and turns creativity into lasting income and growth.

@SceneNoise: Last February, at the first ‘Women in Music’ event in Cairo (co-hosted by SceneNoise, Little Pink Book and Takwene at Yellow Tape Records, Maadi), Babel Sadek - A&R Manager at Sony Music Publishing - offered key advice for emerging young talents during the industry panel ‘Off Stage: Women Laying the Groundwork for a Sustainable Music Industry in MENA’.

Sadek stressed the paramount importance of artistic growth over image in helping new artists find their footing in the industry. She urged young talents to be self-independent and focus more on developing their artistic and professional skills, rather than getting caught up in the trap of maintaining a specific visual identity. Her message was clear: be confident and take ownership of your creative voice, so you don’t get intimidated by the opinions of established industry figures.

#GouNews: EGYPTIAN DJ/PRODUCER MISTY SIGNS WITH SONY MUSIC PUBLISHING MENA.

Egyptian DJ and producer Misty has officially signed with Sony Music Publishing MENA, marking a major milestone in his career and solidifying his status as one of the region’s most exciting electronic music artists.

The signing follows a breakout run for Misty, who first caught widespread attention with his edit of Amr Diab’s classic ‘Wala Ala Balo’ alongside UK-based producer Alan Dixon. The track became a sleeper hit on global dance floors and playlists alike.

Shortly after, Misty teamed up with Saudi heavyweights Dish Dash on ‘Aywa Aywa’, a high-energy heater featuring vocals by Ebla. The single dropped via InAct and quickly gained traction across the Middle East.

Now backed by Sony Music Publishing’s MENA division, Misty enters a new chapter with the promise of broader distribution, bigger collaborations, and further amplification of his diverse style.

A single shadow behind me
As the summer sun does blind me
But keep shining
Keep on shining
Don't let the night fall

For I have no girl
No friend to call
That I can take to the summer ball
I'm way out of luck
And straight out of love
I've no girl for the summer ball

Do I have to ask the blessing of husbands that aren't dancing
For all will see and talk of me as the man with no partner
For I can't get it right tonight of all nights
On the door there are couples only
And I'm so lonely somebody call me
I've no girl for the summer ball

For seven years I loved my best friend
She left for Scotland has started again
For seven years we came to the ball
She held me high and then let me fall

Like the table where we always sat
I won't be laid or worried about
And the band that plays the blues is playing our song
For a girl is the ticket and without it you miss it
The much talked about summer ball
One large marquee but no one with me
I've no girl for the summer ball
I've no girl for the summer ball
I've no girl for the summer ball
