POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

With the new season starting this week, we decided to look back at some of the funny moments from filming this squad at training last season. Disclaimer this reel mostly contains the many sibling fights between @jett.ferguson_ and @lilyyalford. The coach says the reason he is bald and grey, is from listening to the crap these two go on with 🤷🏼‍♀️ 🤣 although the coach encourages this banter as he finds it hilarious. I hope you enjoy this training recap ahead of another big season for the Surfers Beachies.

Open Australian Championships. Sooke Paley had a breakthrough Aussies this year, claiming her first medal after placing 4th at the last 2 Australian Championships. This season as a first year under 17, we thought it could be a tough year racing older girls. But we have all been telling this kid how good she is. It took a long and hard conversation with the coach after state to get her to realise that the only pressure she feels comes from herself and the advice he gave was to ‘run free’ and run free she did! She found another 2 gears, lifted big time and ran to her full potential to claim the Silver medal in the u17 Women’s Beach Flags. This result had a few of us fighting back tears and it was hugs all round. It all just clicked on the biggest stage and we were all so happy for Sooke. It’s only up from here.

Aussies 2026

This year brought new challenges as a first year open, and I couldn’t have done it without the man himself @simonharris01 in my corner, taking home the silver 🥈 as a first year open in the beach flags is beyond what I wanted to achieve at the start of the season

What a season and what a crew 💙💛 @surfersparadiseslsc

Proud is an absolute understatement. We are very lucky to have the GOAT Simon Harris as our coach. I’m definitely biased but I see the amount of time, support and passion he has for all his athletes. It showed in this team’s results. Sprints saw Lily 5th in U19 women’s an awesome effort after a tough year with illness and injury. Harry and Swayde from Mordialloc claiming Silver & Bronze in U19 sprints respectively. Beach Flags, started with U19’s, Swayde claiming Bronze just behind Lily with a Silver medal, for the 2nd year in a row, we can’t wait to see her in opens next year with an uninterrupted season. Harry impressed again taking out Gold in U19 Flags & being selected in the Australian squad. Then our U17’s stepped in to the pit. Sooke has had a tough year, with results not coming, but on the big stage she put it all together, having us all in tears of joy with Silver in the U17 Women’s. Next was Jayvyn (Boltface) with his focus the last 2 years being on Flag Football, representing Australia. Bolt grabbed a Bronze medal in U17 Men’s. Next up Opens. Our women’s team consisted of new mum and beach flags legend EJ chasing her 7th title racing for Currumbin, Annah the defending champion from France racing for Biarritz (winning for Surfers last year) and our own ‘Delaware Destroyer’ Lainey racing for Surfers via the USA. All 3 ladies were super impressive, with Lainey taking Bronze, the first individual medal at the Australian Championships for an American athlete, something to be very proud of. The final run came down to EJ and Annah, no matter the result, both women would be crowned Gold medallists. Annah was successful in the final run, although EJ will be recorded as the Australian champion, an amazing effort off limited training and raising a 7 month old, true mum strength and an inspiration to all, you will definitely be missed in our squad. Jett lined up in his first year in open’s fighting the whole way to grab Silver, super impressive for a kid who started training with Simon at age 14, big things to come for this kid in the future. So bloody proud of this team and what they have achieved, a big shout out to all our amazing supporters and parents.

Day 2 at the Murphy Homes Maroochy Classic saw the team compete in Beach Sprints & Relays. @jett.ferguson_ clinching 3rd in the open men’s sprint with both @lilyyalford & @sooke_paley placing 4th in the open women’s & U17’s women’s sprint finals respectively. Then for a bit of fun in the relays with our Open Mixed Beach Relay team racing together for the first time and we also entered the One Club Relay so all our team members got a run. It was great to see the Surfers cap represented in the relays. Thankyou to the @maroochydore.slsc & @c21onduporth for putting on a great carnival on a perfect flags and sprint track. Hopefully we will have the same track at our next carnival, Qld State Champs back up at Maroochydore in a month. Now back to some hard training for our squad, have fun with that guys 😳

Day 2 of the World Ocean Series at Manly saw the weather turn and squad race Sprints, in a very up and down sprint track. Some fair results for our Surfers Beachies. With @jett.ferguson_ placing 4th in the open men’s sprint, @lilyyalford placing 4th in the open women’s sprint, with @laineyshock 8th in the final and @sooke_paley 4th in the u17 women’s sprint. Then Surfers entered an Open women’s beach relay for the first time in 40 years or more. With the girls running extremely well in their first hit out, with an u17, an u19, an open and master competitor in the team placing 3rd. Now bring on Murphy Builders next weekend.

Great arvo yesterday at the World Ocean Series at Manly for our Surfers Beachies in the beach flags. @laineyshock taking out the silver open women’s flags with @lilyyalford 5th, @jett.ferguson_ 4th in the open men’s flags, and @sooke_paley 6th in a stacked final in the u17 women’s flags, then backing up and just missing the semis in the open women’s. Now for sprints and relays today in to a strong head wind.

Very late in posting but the social media lady was not at Round 3 of the Qld Beach Series at Burleigh last Saturday. But the team were outstanding 🙌🏻 @sooke_paley taking out both the u17 female flags & sprint, @lilyyalford also taking out the double in the open women’s flags & sprint, with @jett.ferguson_ taking silver in the open men’s sprint and winning the flags. Exceptional work guys. Not to mention our two masters competitors racing in the open flags @o__dogs and @gordon.c.helena both snatching 5th, great effort in open competition. Thanks to our coaches and team managers looking after our team on an extremely hot day, and to those that supplied me with the pics and videos.
