They say you live and you learn but I'm learning how to live 💗💚

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Twelve years ago (technically tomorrow 🤭), my line sisters and I began our lifelong journey as women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. 💗💚 This weekend, we celebrated the roller coaster of growing together through milestones, moves, motherhood, and more while exploring Detroit and making new core memories. 💐🪞

✨ Steal our quick visit itinerary:
☕ Roasting Plant
🌊 Riverfront strolls
🏙️ Renaissance Center views
🍳 Hudson Café (Brunch)
🎶 Motown Museum
🍽️ Townhouse (Dinner + Cute Cocktails)
🍸 The Skip / Red Tent vibes

For those unfamiliar with Black Greek Letter Organizations:

💗 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was founded in 1908 at Howard University. It’s mission is to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among college women, to study and help alleviate problems concerning girls and women in order to improve their social stature, to maintain a progressive interest in college life, and to be of “Service to All Mankind.”

💚 A line sister is someone you join the organization with, your day one. And this bond? It’s a forever ting. It’s deeper than friendship. We are building lives, legacy, and lifelong sisterhood together!

Because they deserve their own post 🥹 These women, my POD sisters, heard that I wasn’t going to have a baby shower and said “AHT AHT…not on our watch”! They planned and pulled this event together, didn’t ask me for anything (actually forbid me from asking to help 🤣), and sacrificed their time while preparing for MFT exams and juggling their own personal challenges. I don’t know what I’ve done to deserve them, but I’m so grateful for their friendship! Thank you so much Devion Baker , Nia Alexis Wilson , Jasz Gar't , Nefertiti Ashanti , and Zoha Alam. Honorable mention to my POD brother SD Anthony who was sick and couldn’t be there to host with them! ❤️ Love you guys!!!! #OLLUstrong #MFTsUnite #WhenFriendsBecomeFamily

During the process of my academic career I’ve faced a plethora of unforeseen challenges. So many times I thought about quitting on myself and looking for an alternative. Assuming that I didn’t have what it takes to keep pushing forward toward my future and goals. Each time I thought about throwing the towel in someone was there to pick me up and remind me to keep going. Whether it was Alec’s presence or someone reminding me to prioritize self care. @trouble4u_ was always a beacon of hope and a grounding force 👩‍👧. @suggaapple @fundingforwomen @majesticsoverignty_ @colombian_jess @blkfox1 @enjel_necol @monique.pierre.14224 @industrious_goddess90 @trishhh_1310 @lowkey.darielle each of them accepted my crying calls or assured me I wasn’t alone and went out of their way to help me clear my head to stay focused.

I fought with my self along this journey to prove I was enough or I was worth it. To compete with my past self and show her, we’re capable of achieving anything. Even though this is one of many accomplishments, Your Favorite Sexologist has a 4.0 in her masters program. Not only do I have a 4.0, I’ve been accepted into the International Marriage and Family Therapy Honors Society and will serve as the campus president until graduation 👩🏽‍🎓. I wouldn’t have been able to do this without God, heavy meditation 🧘🏾‍♀️, my support system and my amazing POD family at OLLU. We were randomly paired together and now I don’t see my career without them. Now I have lifelong friends, family, and future business partners. Shout out to the All Stars ✨@_justdeeee_ , @awarebearthoughts @iamprincessa__ , @sooklass1c , @zohahahaha , and @radiant_purpose #blackgirlmagic #smartypants #brainsbeautybooty #mastersdegree #marriageandfamilytherapy #yourfavoritesextherapist #sexologist #believeinyourself #yougotthis #persistence #bilingualtherapist #selflove

#flashbackfriday to the #HTYA Houston Connect a few weeks ago. HT alum and author Belinda Mays shared her HT experience along with how crucial it is for young children to read books that speak to them through reading and illustrations. We’re glad to have her contribute to the #booksofcolor initiative. We networked, collected books....and ended by exploring the awesome rooms at @bookedhtx. Many thanks to Corey & his #AFAMEXPERIENCE for their gracious hospitality and his artistic contribution to the city of Houston. We look forward to connecting again and collaborating in the near future. #HustonTillotson

UPDATED INFO: HT Young Alum in Houston and surrounding areas! We are looking forward to seeing you next Saturday. During our meetup we will reconnect and collect black-authored books; afterwards you will have the option to visit the museum. You do NOT have to pay to attend the meetup. Tag #HTYA in Houston. Wear HT paraphernalia, bring at least one book to donate and as always...let’s have a great time!

#HTYA as recent graduates are transitioning into the “real world” drop some knowledge on how you were able to use your undergrad years to navigate into a new space including career, grad school or simply the challenges you encountered after walking the stage.
