2026 is the new 2016.
And the year I got sober.

There’s a certain kind of pain only certain people understand.
The kind that doesn’t live in moderation.

Eating.
Drinking.
Gambling.

This trend pulled me back to a chapter I had almost forgotten.

January 21, 2016.
I was 26.
Living at home.
Defeated.

2016. I was exhausted. It felt like the thousandth time I was trying again. I didn’t think it would last.

But I showed up.
One day at a time.

So much has happened since then that I became distant from that chapter.

What came later was darker. More haunting. And by the grace of my higher power, I stayed sober.

Life gets better when you get sober, but life doesn’t stop.

And it becomes harder and more painful when you stop showing up for the work.

The years between 2016 and 2026 have been the most beautiful and painful years of my life. And I wouldn’t change a thing.

I’m grateful for the lessons I’ve learned and the people I’ve met along the way.

Here is to another day and never forgetting to love the parts that carried me here.

This experience was phenomenal. The knowledge and connection I walked away with are valuable. The opportunity given still blows my mind! 🫣 To be in the room and to be the stage. Wheww, God is moving and I am following.

Any doubt, imposter syndrome has subsided. I accomplished something that I didn’t even think of. God keeps telling me I am thinking too small. It only gets bigger and I am continuing to strive for greater! 🙌🏽🙌🏽

True strength is built on a foundation of vulnerability and resilience. 💛

My cup is STILL overflowing from the “Can We Talk?” Mental Health, Arts & Wellness Summit last weekend. It was an honor to speak on this panel alongside some very inspiring ladies, sharing how we’ve found “lightness” in being strong women.

This conversation poured into me at just the right time as I’m overcoming a season of isolation through my hardest year of classes towards my doctorate. When many things seem out of your control externally, it takes internal work with constant faith and intentional effort to rise out of the dark place that life can try to keep you in!

Huge thank you to @tarajiphenson @traciejade & the entire @blhensonfoundation for creating this space as a reminder that when we come together, the load gets lighter and the light gets brighter.

On Friday, for World Mental Health Day, I had the honor of speaking at the Can We Talk Summit hosted by @blhensonfoundation founder, @tarajiphenson!✨

In the sacred conversation I was a part of, powerful and inspiring women surrounded me, and we graciously shared our journeys and practices of “Finding the Lightness of Being a Strong Woman.” Together, we redefined what strength truly means and began to unlearn the patterns of self-abandonment that sometimes hold us back, reclaiming our joy and rest.

Healing, transformation, and vulnerability filled the room, a sacred space where generations of women gave and received support, compassion, and understanding from one another.

Here are some heartfelt insights to consider from our conversation:

✨Prioritizing yourself isn’t selfish, it’s self-FULL.
✨It’s okay to be still. Take your rest.
✨Who are you, and how do you define joy, and what do you need to release to bask in that joy?
✨Allow the power of your yes to be just as powerful and sacred as your no, without apology, and without shame.
✨Your strength, servitude, and femininity can co-exist in the both/and, not the either/or.

Once again, I want to sincerely thank @tarajiphenson and @traciejade for the incredible work you and your team are doing through the Boris L. Henson Foundation. Your dedication is truly making a difference by providing much-needed resources within the BIPOC community. Thank you for having me.✨

What can I say about this weekend.. everything and nothing at the same time because I have so many things to say, but words are just not enough to express what I am feeling!

When @drjeffmenzise introduced @themeccagroup to @blhensonfoundation during COVID to help support their efforts to provide therapy services for the Black community, we immediately said yes! Fast forward 5 years and I had the wonderful opportunity to share a sacred conversation about Finding the Lightness of Being a Strong Woman with six amazing women in mental health and wellness, during their annual wellness summit! This was not only a summit but a reflection of what community, healing, and action look like in one space.

Thank you @tarajiphenson for your vision. Thank you @blhensonfoundation for leading our community to wholeness!

"Finding the Lightness of Being a Strong Woman" explores how true resilience can also be light, joyful, playful, and freeing!
