Have you booked your ticket for our free workshop yet?

Taking place next week on Friday 28th November, 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm

📍London College of Communication

In this workshop you will explore materials from the UAL Archives and Special Collections Centre, gathering inspiration before creating your own archive of paper items with personal value to you 🥰

We invite you to bring along any paper items that have value/meaning to you or are associated with memories (this could include anything paper based from tickets, maps, journal pages to packaging and so on). We will have access to a scanner/photocopier on hand in case you don’t want to use your original items. You’ll leave the workshop with your very own ‘envelope book’, all making materials will be provided.

This workshop will be facilitated by Tasch Von Uexkull, founder of @assemblagecollective_ in partnership with @ual_archives and the Arts Programme Team.

#tbt to our Sustainability project back in June, installing ILLEGAL WORLD FACTORY. In the words of our fantastic facilitator @jillkmcn

‘The creative culmination of a month long commissioned project, working with Masters and PhD students from across UAL to consider ways to explore and communicate issues around the climate crisis. Made exclusively from waste generated from the creative process and borrowed materials, ILLEGAL WORLD FACTORY asks what happens when we try to enact and embody values from a project’s conception through to its execution.’

The work was exhibited in our @csm_news Exhibition & Project space as one of our final student-led projects. This commission came from our @lcclondon Sabbatical Officer properties- highlighting the need for more sustainability focused opportunities and approaches- holding @unioftheartslondon to account whilst consciousness raising the relevance of carbon reduction. A huge thank you to Jill for her brilliant work crafting such an immersive and engaging programme and display outcome, as well as all the students who attended the workshops - especially @marija_kadelburg who came up with the bamboo idea and the name.

#tbt we’re taking it back to our Creative Mentoring event back in early June. The first mentoring event programmed by the Arts Programme team as part of our Connection + Collaboration strand of work supporting students in their need to develop better networking skills, connection to other students, industry professionals and cultural organisations.

We were warmly hosted by our brilliant @darkroombar crafting a chilled and relaxed environment for students to gain intensive and immersive knowledge and insight from 5 industry professionals. For this event we attempted to represent 6 key areas of creative practice at @unioftheartslondon Fine Art, Design, Fashion, Communication, Emerging Technologies and Photography.

Those attending received up to 45 minutes with one of our brilliant and inspiring mentors- gaining insight, feedback on projects, capacity to understanding their goals and ways forward for their practice as well as a free soft or hot drink.

With a huge thank you to our Mentors for their hard work, time and energy on this debut event, we value the enthusiasm you came with, understanding and insight. We brought on board and thank @aliyahhasinah for her Curatorial understanding, @julia.howe.tew for her Fashion and photography skills, Kate Soloman for her experience as a freelance journalist, @sianfan for her digital expertise and creative practice and last but not least @stevemac65 for photography and business acumen. We hugely appreciate and value each mentor for embarking on this opportunity with us. Sharing their time, knowledge, expertise and engagement.

We wanted to share some of the documentation taken by our excellent student Photographer @matigranica detailing the event.

Keep your eyes peeled for further insights from this event- top creative tips and ideas shared by our mentors.

We’ve listened to feedback and hope to re-run this event come academic year 2025 – 2026, building in more time for students to attend by hopefully programming more mentoring in our Spring term so watch out for details via our newsletter, social and website.

#tbt to our inspiring studio visits earlier this year as part of our #artandtech programme. We took our students to visit the studios of @_keiken_ an artist collective, co-founded by Tanya Cruz, Hana Omori and Isabel Ramos in 2015. Based between London and Berlin, they come from mixed diasporic backgrounds (Mexican / Japanese / European / Jewish).

Keiken’s collective title is taken from the Japanese word for experience; the lived experience being an idea at the core of their practice.

Students met with Isabel from the collective gaining a thorough insight into their practice, experiencing first hand their haptic womb technology and gaining 1-2-1 mentoring, all from the awe-inspiring walls of their Somerset House studios.

For our second studio visits, students were ensconced in the fascinating world of @influential_bro - a Canadian-British artist who considers the present moment through observing dance in popular culture and how it is disseminated, circulated, made, and consumed. Listening to Nina’s background in the arts, how she moved to a freelance artistic practice gaining a studio in Gospel Oak and up and coming projects.

Both visits illustrate the importance of understanding artistic practice in situ- seeing the spaces artists inhabit, make and produce their work, how they got there and within the scope of tech-led practices how studios function as similar spaces of dialogue, inspiration and idea building beyond the digital.

Thanks go to Isabel, Keiken and Nina for welcoming us into your worlds, motivating and inspiring us and our students with your ideas and openness.

Well I have finished my analysis of mono prints done by visitors to my studio during Open Studios in 2024 - the findings have implications for national government, print studios, fine art courses and the cultural industry generally @yartspace @uwe_drawing_research @bristolprintworkshops @edinburghprintmakers @sophierisner @sneddonandrew @sharon_zapkpow @ahrcpress @sheffieldprintfair @carousel_print_studio @jamesquinpainting #monoprint

.
A huge thank you to @sophierisner for the thoughtful review of my recent solo show ‘Digital Flesh: The Texture of Identity’ at @tmlighting on her @substack blog!

“The fluidity Rayvenn attaches to these people through their ‘colour-blind’ casting, utilising whites, bronze and browns over blacks and forming a space for the incredible texture of the method. Here the work challenges how we desire an answer to figurative work but not always are given this insight. Historically this could be said for a lot of our public art works and their space in our landscape.”
