Rating my week!
This week had lab wins, RNA extraction, cells surviving, meeting other science creators and celebrations!
It was a good reminder that PhD life is not just experiments and deadlines, lab wins matter but so do the moments that keep you going!!

🩸💧 What if artist and scientists collaborate?

Incurable looks at blood as something we all share yet rarely appreciate. Beneath its familiarity lies a constant, life-giving defence system. The mural is inspired by haematology scientists Kat Fordwor-Hepburn and Sophie Ball’s work on multiple myeloma.

The artwork zooms into the blood of two individuals, showing how plasma cells in the bone marrow can protect one person but become damaged and harmful in another.

How often do we ask how healthy our blood really is?

The divas get the spotlight, but oligos get the job done.
Behind every successful experiment, oligonucleotides are quietly enabling innovation across molecular biology.

Hear from a university grad student @sophinvitro on why oligos are what make modern science possible.

Join us for upcoming Cell Culture Hero Webinar 💙

Making the “undruggable” druggable
Rapid degradation of oncogenic transcription factors using the FKBP12F36V dTAG system

Join us on March 26, 2026 for our next Cell Culture Hero Webinar featuring Sophie Ball, PhD Student, Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London.

Transcription factors (TFs) are critical drivers in cancer biology — yet they are widely considered “undruggable.” Why? Because disrupting protein–DNA and protein–protein interactions with small molecules remains a major therapeutic challenge.

In this webinar, Sophie will walk us through how the FKBP12F36V dTAG system enables rapid, inducible degradation of oncogenic transcription factors using CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing - offering a powerful way to study essential oncogenes while maintaining cell viability.

What you’ll learn:
🔬 Why transcription factors are difficult to target therapeutically
🧬 How to engineer cell lines with the FKBP12F36V degrader tag
⚡ The advantages of inducible protein degradation to study immediate transcriptional effects

This webinar will highlight how innovative cell engineering approaches are helping researchers better understand oncogenic function in multiple myeloma and beyond.

📅 Date: March 26, 2026
⏰ Time: 9:00 AM PT | 12:00 PM ET

Sophie (@sophinvitro), a PhD researcher at Imperial, uses Otio as her research notebook.

There’s a lot of waiting in lab work and your best ideas come in those gaps. But if you don’t capture them properly, they’re gone.

Sophie uploads hers papers and keeps a running thread of notes and experimental ideas alongside them. When she returns days later, the context is all there.
