Opening of Mothering in Komunidad: Filipinos in UAE at NYUAD, 19 Washington Square North, curated by Montana Ray as part of The Family Photography Symposium at NYU. @nyuad19wsn
April 23-June 12 2026

Komunidad is commissioned as part of the Akkasah Photography Archive @akkasah_nyuad and NYU Special Collections. I’m proud that the history of Filipino migrants in the UAE now lives in an institutional archive.

Thank you, Shamoon Zamir, for trusting me to document the Filipino community a decade ago, and thank you, Montana, @8planetsincancer for exhibiting this work for the first time. We feel seen.

P.S. My book We Are Like Air is at the Bobst Library at NYU. As an alumna, my heart is full.

The Diaspora is Home, @filamsforracialaction , and @flux_factory present Kamayan: A Storytelling Lunch.

We closed the exhibition not with an ending but with a meal. Twenty-two beautiful souls gathered around a long table surrounded by images and installations of The Diaspora is Home. We shared food using our hands and stories of being and welcoming a stranger. Hosted by Lara Gregory @laragregory , the lunch unfolded like a memory itself, slow, intimate, and tender. Served with Filipino dishes prepared by Chef Ai of Filipiniana, we held space for stories of migration, survival, joy, and longing. Each voice offering a vessel of remembrance carrying the weight and wonder of the Asian American diaspora.

This gathering was never meant to be a closing, but a continuation —a living archive of connection where our stories keep unfolding, soft and firm, through the generosity of the community. This will be the first of many gatherings in conjunction with The Diaspora is Home, each one a return to the table, a homecoming through story. With deep gratitude to everyone who came, shared, and stayed awhile. I look forward to our next meal.

Sometimes I leave my studio and witness something magical. Kinding Sindaw performance in @lamamagalleria is beautiful.

lg (Water) will transport you to the Philippines archipelago through dance, depicting the ebb and flow of oceans, lakes, waterfalls, and rivers. Kinding Sindaw immerses participants in the rich ecosystem of these waters, using intricate footwork and body movements to embody traditions from the Meranao, Maguindanao, Tboli, and Taosug peoples. The dances share rituals and stories from the Derangen, Lemlunay, and Kissa epics, reflecting cultural codes tied to the land and water. Accompanied by the kulintang music of Tradition Bearers from Iranun Bai Labi, this 90-minute performance honors the heritage of the southern Philippines and uplifts the stories of these communities.

That’s a wrap on Google Next 2025! It was a massive undertaking, but when you have a squad like this, it is so much easier. Great week with @aliveco for @gpjexperiencemarketing and @googlecloud in Las Vegas Nevada.
