Huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out for our very first Drop & Swap Clothing Event! Over 100 people filled reusable totes with new and gently used clothing.

This event was all about sustainability and community — brought to you by the VB Clean Community Commission and the @vbedfound (VBEF).

While we helped keep clothing out of the landfill, the VBEF continues to make a difference by using 100% of monetary donations for its Beach Bags program. The Beach Bags program provides shelf-stable meals and healthy snacks to students who might otherwise go hungry on weekends and during school breaks, including the long summer breaks. 🩵

Leftover clothing was taken to @sosthriftstores, which further assists the VBEF through the sale of donated items.

✨Making a Difference: S.O.S. Thrift ✨

This month, we’re spotlighting S.O.S. Thrift Store in Virginia Beach, founded by Alanton resident Suzanne Fall.

🏫 S.O.S. = Save Our Schools
A partnership with Virginia Beach City Public Schools, where every purchase helps provide school supplies, essentials, and nourishment directly to students to help them put their attention toward learning, and not basic needs—all distributed through school social workers. When you visit the store, you can even donate money at the register!

Suzanne, owner of Feathered Nest Estate Sales, was inspired after seeing her teacher friends spend their own money to cover classroom and basic needs for students. S.O.S. Thrift helps fill those gaps for children in our community.

🤝 How you can help:
☑️ Come shop for secondhand treasures!
☑️ Donate your gently used items (no appliances, armoires, bulky furniture or mattresses)
☑️ Drop off your donation, or schedule a donation pickup: 757-937-9584

📍 New Location:
5193 Shore Dr #109, Virginia Beach, 23455

The September Issue is out, featuring The Williams Family of Alanton on the cover and in our featured article. Alvin, Carrie and Penny share their love of gardening, family and neighborhood traditions, and of course, their love of cooking together. Alvin is a classically trained French chef from England, and co-owner and Executive Chef of Cobalt Grille. Carrie is a former event planner in the hospitality industry who now teaches at Organic Beginnings Montessori, after being inspired by Penny's time there. Penny is the apple of their eye, creative, curious, and a budding gardener in their large garden, Cobalt Farms shown on @cobaltgrillevb.

Also in this issue:
+ Making a Difference featuring Alanton resident Suzanne Fall & S.O.S. Thrift Store @sosthriftstores benefitting Virginia Beach City Public Schools
+ Garden of the Month featuring a Native Plant Garden in Alanton, guided by an @lrnow course given by Alanton resident Trista Imrich, owner of @wildworksofwhimsy
+ Featured Sponsor Spotlight: Q & A with Realtor Heather O'Neill @heatheroneill.realestate

We love this issue, filled with community stories. We hope you enjoy reading it, and our early start to fall temperatures.

Our 1930’s home has brought me so much joy. Bringing color and new life to her makes my ❤️😊. So many projects currently happening and many more to come. It’s so important to me to honor her original glory and I keep uncovering ways to restore her to that. #oldhouse @rochebobois @wesleyhallfurniture @jamaligallerylasolas @canvasandcargo @benevolent_design_co @greenbrierlightingathilltop @schumacher1889 @annieselke
