It was great to see Soulside and Scream play in the Twin Cities! They both played powerful, energetic, and politically-infused sets, which is impressive given that both bands have been doing this for more than 40 years! It was also awesome to see them join together on stage at the end for some really fun cover songs including an Egg Hunt cover (see the last photo).

That now seems like foreshadowing since Soulside and Scream just released a split 7" together where they each cover one of the other band's songs, as you can hear on the audio of this post where Soulside covers the Scream classic 'Laissez-faire'. Get your copy!

A few years ago we did several tours with our label mates Soulside, smashing it down together every night!

We wanted to keep the party going, so we challenged ourselves to cover each other’s music. In Montreal, we went into Indica Studios to do our own take on Soulside while echoing the great lyrics and strong message of their song “Reconstruction”.

Read the lyrics and sing the song and you might recognize the legacy of systemic racism that we still live with today.

80’s FLASHBACK FRIDAY (1988) “Record of the Day” #soulside

Scream and Soulside first played together at the Cubby Bear in Chicago in July 1988. After a few more shows together that year, they didn’t share a stage again until July 2022, at the Inne Brzmienia festival in Lublin, Poland. There in Poland the two bands met minds, and a match was struck. Soulside and Scream soon released new albums on Dischord Records, then toured together in the US and Europe in 2023 and 2024. This 7” is a gathering of forces and musical admiration to spread a message of love and a lifelong commitment to the struggle for true American justice. “Laissez-Faire” was written by Scream and first appeared on Still Screaming (Dischord, 1983). This version is performed by Soulside and was recorded and mixed in June 2025. “Reconstruction” was written by Soulside and first appeared on A Brief Moment in the Sun (Dischord, 2022). This version is performed by Scream and was recorded in September 2024.
