He said he'd do it. So he did. The Mooncake Chinese video is here.

What am I most proud of? That the whole thing actually took off. Plenty of chances to embarrass myself in front of all of China — a billion things that could go wrong. But in every new city, it fired up and worked: both timecodes, audio reactivity, laser, lights, video, MIDI, the Telegram bot. (With only these two hands.)

I could end this run of mooncake posts on that high note. After all, I never even told you about the March project at Helikon Opera (and that was no joke either). But for one thing — I'm writing an article about all this. And for another — I could theoretically do a masterclass (in Russian) with all the artistic and technical details: setup, td-patches, the works. You want that? Or no?

The last city of the «Mooncake» China tour was Guangzhou.

It was hellishly hot, humid, and stuffy. And the club was… well-seasoned, let's say )

And all of this — right after a flight.

But it was the last show of the tour, you know. We crushed it so hard in Guangzhou that the next day I locked myself in my hotel room and spent the whole day drawing «Mowgli» for the Moscow Philharmonic — didn't join the others for mall trips. I was recovering from post-rock, so to speak )

With that, I'm pausing the China photo posts. I'll wait until I have some decent video footage.

Continuing my series of posts about the "Mooncake" China tour (April 2026). Here, dear friends, is the Hangzhou. It hosted probably the best concert of the tour — at least sound-wise, I truly enjoyed it. Plus, by the time we hit the halfway point, we'd gained some experience and stopped making all those annoying mistakes.

The Shanghai concert, I should mention, was recorded — a whole crew came with five cameras. By the time we got to Hangzhou, the organizers were so inspired by how well things were going and the huge response on social media that ticket sales for the remaining shows actually jumped a bit. So, first, they decided to record this concert as well, and second, they decided to bring in a laser four times more powerful.

And they brought it — but it didn't work. Spent about three hours messing with it, but it wouldn't fire up (

Ended up using the standard 10W — what can you do )

(I'll post the video once it's edited too.)

Continuing my "Mooncake" tour in China throwback. This is Shanghai.

Tech-wise, I didn’t have many complaints, but two issues popped up in every single city:

1) Grandma2 consoles had different (old) firmware everywhere. Local crews were too scared to update to the latest official release. Result? My prepped show files wouldn’t open anywhere and I had to rebuild them on the spot each time.

2) Not a single Chinese club had a properly programmed pixel-to-pixel video processor. The pixel resolution of the screens was, let’s say, not matching reality. So 1/3 of the soundcheck was wasted on scaling video/lasers — sometimes even rearranging the whole composition to fit the screen.

Tell me when you get tired of "Mooncake" posts, I’ll switch to the Helikon-Opera, no problem )
