Somebody once told me...

...that some bands have a handful of songs that become bigger than the band itself. Smash Mouth is certainly one of them. But there’s a lot more to their story than “All Star.”

I recently had the chance to talk with founding bassist Paul De Lisle about the journey from the ska-punk energy of Fush Yu Mang through the band’s massive success, evolving sound, movie soundtracks (even beyond Shrek!), and the very unexpected afterlife of “All Star.”

We also talked about Steve Harwell’s legacy, the challenge of moving forward while honoring the past, and what brought Smash Mouth back to the studio for Mercury Comet, their first album of original material in more than a decade.

This was a really fascinating conversation about music, success, reinvention, loss, and what happens when a song becomes part of pop culture in a way that nobody could have predicted.

The full conversation is in the link in my bio!

Magical night at the Hollywood Bowl catching up with Spin Doctors, Gin Blossoms, and Blues Traveler guys!

I had the rare night off, so I was able to just nerd out and watch the bands rock.

The Bowl was packed and all three sound AMAZING, so go out and see their tour this summer!

Thanks again for the hospitality, gentleman!

Woooow Okinawa! Arigatou gozaimasu!

That was seriously top 5 crowds we have ever seen. I’m talking mosh pits, crowd surfing, singing along, Shrek masks… absolutely bonkers.

It was worth flying 6000 miles to honor the Marines, sailors, and families who make Camp Kinser such an important place. Thank you for your service!

It’s in the records now.
Pressed between albums like it belongs there.
Honestly? It kind of does.
I’m outnumbered.
