Some experiences stay with you long after you leave the gym.❤️🏀

Last night, Maddox had the incredible opportunity to participate in a Special Olympics Wisconsin basketball skills experience at the Kohl Center with the Wisconsin Women’s Basketball team.

And yes, being on that court was pretty amazing. But what I’ll remember most had very little to do with basketball.

It was the kindness. 🥹

These women made the athletes feel seen, celebrated and included. They laughed with them, encouraged them, celebrated every basket and high five, and made them feel like they belonged exactly where they were.

And that kindness didn’t end when the event did.

Afterward, members of the team stayed and talked with Gavin and me about school, their education, their futures and just… life. There was no rush. Just incredibly kind young women taking the time to connect with our family.

And Coach Robin Pingeton ❤️what a beautiful culture you are creating.

I actually met Robin before I even realized she was the head coach, which somehow makes the experience even more meaningful. The warmth and inclusiveness we experienced clearly extends far beyond basketball.

As a mom raising a son with different abilities, moments like these mean more than I can adequately put into words.

Because inclusion isn’t simply inviting someone into the room. It’s making sure they know they belong once they get there.

Last night, Maddox belonged.🫶

And looking around that court, you could see that same sense of belonging everywhere.

Thank you 🙏to Special Olympics Wisconsin, Wisconsin Athletics, Coach Pingeton and the entire Wisconsin Women’s Basketball program for an experience our family won’t forget.

You gained some lifelong fans last night🏀❤️

We’ll be back in the Kohl Center soon🎉cheering for you!

On WISCONSIN!!! ❤️🤍

Individuals with intellectual disabilities (ID) are often excluded from research production and distribution, which leads to gaps in knowledge and health inequities.

In a supplement from @americanpublichealth, Evaluation Coordinator for @sowisconsin and Project ALL STAR, Allison Caudill, highlights the lessons learned from co-creating an inclusive evaluation alongside Special Olympics athletes with ID through Project ALL STAR.

Listen as @sominnesota athlete and Global Messenger, Shelby Eisenschenk, discusses his work on Project ALL STAR and why inclusive research is important.

Our Warriors had an incredible time partnering with the Special Olympics, running drills, playing football, and sharing plenty of laughs. Days like these are what it’s all about‼️
