The Siege of Budapest was one of the fiercest urban battles on the Eastern Front. It took place between December 1944 and February 13, 1945, when Soviet and Romanian forces surrounded Budapest, which was defended by German and Hungarian troops.

The 22nd SS Volunteer Cavalry Division, commonly known as “Maria Theresia,” played a significant role in the defense of Budapest. Although it was a cavalry division, its troops frequently fought dismounted as infantry, while horses were used mainly for mobility, reconnaissance, and transportation.

Urban base for my "Big Head" young Wehrmacht lieutenant, Stalingrad, 1942. Always looking to experiment, I came across the @tinyveterans caps for large heads of @citizenbrick . As the Heads are too plain, I looked for an anime character, so used some decals for dolls. The body is a misprint figure repainted and the gear is from 1/35 model figures. #legomilitaryfigures #legominifigures #legoww2 #legoww2creations #toyslagram_lego

Germany pioneered the large-scale use of lethal poison gas in World War I, first deploying chlorine gas on April 22, 1915, during the Second Battle of Ypres to break the trench warfare deadlock. While initially causing panic and creating massive gaps in Allied lines, gas became a pervasive terror weapon rather than a war-winning strategy, ultimately accounting for ~3% of fatalities. @brickssoldier masked heads...#ww1 #WWI #legominifigures #toystagram_lego #toyphotography

Hideki Tōjō (東條英機 Tōjō Hideki, Tokyo, December 30, 1884-Tokyo, December 23, 1948) was a Japanese military officer who became Prime Minister of Japan during World War II, between 1941 and 1944. He held other important positions such as Minister of War (1940-1944), Minister of Foreign Affairs (1942), Minister of Education (1942) or Chief of the General Staff of the Army (1944). He was the intellectual architect of the Japanese invasion of Manchuria, which would eventually lead to the war against China and, later, to World War II. Tōjō possessed a charismatic personality and wielded considerable influence within the Japanese military. During the war, while he served as prime minister, numerous war crimes were committed in territories occupied by the Japanese armed forces, including the execution of prisoners and the use of chemical and biological weapons. In mainland Japan itself, the military police (Kenpeitai) and other security forces transformed the country into a veritable police state, while political life was largely confined to the Imperial Regime Support Association (Taisei Yokusankai). As a result of the cascade of military defeats that followed from 1942 and 1943 onward, Tōjō was forced to resign from all his posts in July 1944. At the end of the war, and after a failed suicide attempt, he was arrested by the new American authorities. He was tried at the International Military Tribunal for the Far East, which sentenced him to death for Japanese war crimes, and he was hanged on December 23, 1948. Subsequently, some historians have alleged that during the Tokyo Trials, the Americans shifted many of Emperor Hirohito's political responsibilities onto Tōjō himself, making him responsible and practically exonerating the emperor.

Rittmeister Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen (2 May 1892 – 21 April 1918), known in English as Baron von Richthofen or the Red Baron, was a German fighter pilot with the German Air Force during World War I. He is considered the ace-of-aces of the war, being officially credited with 80 air combat victories.

Originally a cavalryman, Richthofen, discovered by Oswald Boelcke, transferred to the Air Service in 1915, becoming one of the first members of fighter squadron Jagdstaffel 2 in 1916. He quickly distinguished himself as a fighter pilot, and during 1917 became the leader of Jasta 11. He eventually rose to command the larger fighter wing Jagdgeschwader I, better known as "The Flying Circus" or "Richthofen's Circus" because of the bright colours of its aircraft, and perhaps also because of the way the unit was transferred from one area of Entente air activity to another – moving like a travelling circus with their aircraft loaded on railroad flatcars, and frequently setting up in tents on improvised airfields. A master tactician and an effective leader, Richthofen became famous due to the mystique of his scarlet planes and was regarded as a national hero in Germany, and inspired fear and respect in his enemies.

Richthofen was shot down and killed over France near Vaux-sur-Somme on 21 April 1918. There has been considerable discussion and debate regarding aspects of his career, especially the circumstances of his death. He remains one of the most famous fighter pilots of all time, and has been the subject of many books, films, and other media, usually with his Red Baron moniker and flying his signature red Fokker Dr.I.
