On August 23rd, we opened the doors of the Artist in Residence studio to the public for Open Studio Day. For five weeks, ten international artists shared a studio space, developing new ideas, experimenting with different media, and creating work during their residency in Belgrade. Open Studio Day offered a chance to step inside the space they had been working in and see the results of this period of research, exchange, and experimentation. The exhibition brought together works and ongoing processes by the participating artists, offering a glimpse into the different directions their practices took throughout the residency. Thank you to everyone who came to meet the artists, explore their work, and be part of the day. 📸 @mateja.mm

FARTING DOWN THE PATRIARCHY Sose2026 “Farting down the patriarchy” is a multimedia installation that utilizes the act of farting as a metaphorical synonym for systemic oppression. The artwork challenges deeply ingrained societal norms and forces viewers, to confront how deeply shame is internalized through patriarchal structures. This installation specifically addresses a Western perspective on farting. The audience gets invited to sit on the pillow I made. It holds a MQ-2 gas sensor that I intigrated, ditecting gas as values. Then by farting onto the pillow, values from the sensor get turned into numbers through a code I wrode in Arduino. When the visitor farts, the values response in the form of a lily flower on a screen. The intensity of the fart controlls the opening range of the leaves of the flower. The flower‘s movement gets manipulated over a math oporator in touchdesigner. For centuries, the patriarchy conditioned gaze as policed the bodies of women and FLINTA* people, demanding they remain clean, beautiful, silent, and odorless. Within this framework, a completely natural bodily function is weaponized as a source of shame and taboo, enforcing a strict standard of aesthetic compliance that cis-men are rarely subjected to. Through its multi-sensory environment, the installation reclaims this suppressed somatic reality, transforming it into a radical act of political resistance. Farting becomes a literal and figurative valve to release the accumulated pressure of daily microaggressions and institutional control. Ultimately, “Farting down the patriarchy” delivers a powerful, liberating message: dismantling oppressive systems begins with reclaiming absolute, unapologetic autonomy over one‘s own body. Thank you @lotta_stoever @mhesselmeier @liu_tingchun @brianclark for supervising my project. #mediaart #touchdesigner #arduino #feminismart

Vogelhaus, 2026 This summer, I had a meeting together with the people responsible for the student initiative Kiosk6 and the municipal civil engineering department after an anonymous (coward) complaint was made about the sculpture, raising concerns about fire safety and structural stability. The meeting also brought up questions about ownership and the rights connected to the site: the kiosk itself belongs to Kiosk6, while the land it stands on belongs to the city and is rented to the initiative for the symbolic amount of €1 per month. The discussion became part of the wider institutional and administrative context of the work. Vogelhaus was already part of my diploma project when this happened. I transformed the former East German K600 kiosk into a giant birdhouse, turning it into a sculpture, a piece of public infrastructure and a potential habitat for (anthro-)birds. The work also became a way of dealing with the realities surrounding a public artwork: ownership, responsibility, administration, regulations and the question of who gets to use and transform a place. During the exhibition, the kiosk hosted a sound work and a live radio show, becoming a place for different kinds of use and encounter. Thanks to @zs0ldosanna , @sparccq , @kiosk.sechs @d.enifesoj and , and especially to @tillroettjer . Without you, none of this would have been possible. Introducing participants of the summer artist residency program at @kcgrad @gradska_galerija MARC ANDRÉ SCHMIDT @sparccq Marc André Schmidt is a sound artist and researcher whose practice explores cultural and gender identity, the relationship between environment and self, and the ways contemporary political and sociological events intersect with human history. Working across electronic and sound art, experimental music, live coding, tactile exploration, composition, and field recording, they investigate the physiological and psychological processes of listening, hearing, and understanding. Situated at the threshold between art and science, their practice questions established rules and beliefs, seeking to reveal, challenge, and reinterpret the systems that shape our perception of the world. #artistinresidence
