Meet Kathy W., one of the newest artistic talents to join SpArc Studios at the @buildingbok!

Kathy recently wrapped up a stunning new color pencil piece inspired by a trip to the Philadelphia Zoo, featuring a giraffe set against a vibrant, multicolored background.

While animals are a recurring theme in her portfolio, Kathy is expanding her creative horizons. Her favorite lesson at SpArc so far has been learning to weave, and she is eager to use her textile skills to create a handcrafted scarf next!

We are so excited to see Kathy’s artistry grow across all media. Be sure to look out for her work next time you visit SpArc Studio!

🎒 5,000+ backpacks. So many helping hands. One incredible community.
This year, Community Schools launched Operation Backpack—bringing people together to pack backpacks filled with school supplies and help students get ready for a successful school year.
A huge THANK YOU to our donors @c2cphiladelphia, our partners at @philly_schools who volunteered their spaces for storage and distribution and all of the volunteers from Central High, SpArc Philadelphia, Philadelphia Federal Credit Union, our friends from Philly Reading Coaches, our amazing MOE colleagues and many community members who signed up individually and joined us. They all made this effort possible.
And a special shoutout to our Volunteer Coordinator, Maddie, who launched her first event of the year!
Every backpack represents people choosing to show up for our students and families.
5,000+ backpacks packed. One powerful community coming together for our students. 🎒❤️

April is Autism Acceptance Month. Autism acceptance means removing barriers so autistic people can belong and participate, without pressure to hide who they are.

Autistic people are part of The Arc’s staff, volunteer leadership, and nationwide network. Their lived experience helps shape our work at a time when the CDC estimates about 1 in 3 1 8-year-old children in the U.S. were identified with autism. Click the link in bio to learn more.

Art at Fringe 🎨

Our space isn’t just for hair—it’s also a place for creativity and community. This month we’re featuring “Voc Folk,” an exhibition created with upcycled materials from vocational program participants at SpArc Services.

The artists transformed everyday materials into thoughtful, three-dimensional self-portraits that explore identity, expression, and imagination.

Each piece is an act of recognition—a layered reflection of selfhood shaped by memory, touch,
and choice. Together, they form a collective portrait: distinct, resilient, and beautifully pieced
together. We honor Barbara Bullock through these works displayed here, we hope they conjure
magic and understanding about our humanity and vision for our community and beyond.

✨ On view February 12 – April 9
📍 At Fringe Salon in the Bok Building

Next time you’re in the chair, take a moment to explore the work on our walls—we love sharing art with our Fringe fam.

Follow @SpArcPhilly to learn more about the artists and their program.
