The last two weeks at Pocosin Arts were nothing less than amazing. Hands down the most productive I have ever been at a two-week residency! Thank you to all my new friends; long-term residents, winter residents and the lovely staff @pocosinarts for making the experience so memorable. Such a beautiful place - I can’t wait to go back. 🥰

Penland is done. And what did I take away from it all?

-idk what torque is and that’s okay (don’t even try to explain it to me)
-it was kinda hard
-I can do hard things
-growing up is weird n stout
-I could probably be exercising more bc why do I kinda feel amazing from all the walking
-finished work really and truly is relative, it’s not a lie
-it literally doesn’t matter and taking things way too serious is the quickest way to have a bad time

Thank you, Shingo, for reminding me to take everything less seriously 💫 and thank you to all my classmates for being so cool and interesting and talented and smart. Until I see you all again 💋

“Kinfolk”

A photograph, 100 years in the making! Thank you to our wedding photographer, Ashley @naturalcraftphoto for suggesting a unique image of our family, which inspired us to recreate this photograph that was made of my father’s family around 1924.

The oldest child in the image is my father’s mother, Kathrine, whom I am named after. Her father, Newland Hodges, standing behind her and her sister Mary, along with his father Thomas Hodges (far left) built the home I grew up in which is where we live today. It felt very fitting to have our marriage celebration here on this land, and be recreating this image in front of our home where these men walked and labored so long ago.

To say I am thrilled with how our image turned out, would be an understatement! Thank you Ashley for suggesting something so unique, which took us to this moment…you’re awesome!

Also thank you to my family for being so damn awesome and willing to go along with our wild ideas!

The back of the original image says “Tom Hodges his wife and their daughter with (?) My sister Anna holding her baby it died their other two girls Mary & Kathrine her husband Newland Hodges his brother Will/Bill Hodges my brother Warley Hawks on end”

Thanks to our volunteers!

Over the weekend, we celebrated the #PenlandBenefitAuction.

A huge undertaking and a labor of love, the auction includes multiple events and 200+ works of art and 400+ guests.

None of this would have been possible without the support of 100+ VOLUNTEERS 💚

We are so grateful to these wonderful humans, many of which have been helping us make this event a joyous success for years.

Thank you, friends, we appreciate you!

Penland recap:PHEWF!!! What a wild two weeks. I really pushed my students to learn new processes and they DID NOT shy away from the challenge! Everything about @penlandschool was beautiful, my students came from all backgrounds and brought all their beautiful talents with them. We visited Asheville, artist studios, saw public sculpture and had major hangs with the iron shop. The pieces they made were spectacular and I could not have asked for a better group. Thanks for the memories everyone! #penland #penlandschoolofcrafts #penlandschoolofcrafts #sarahholden #sarahholdenjewelry #craft #steel #fabricated #contemporaryjewellery #contemporaryjewelry #contemporarycraft #sculpture
