Sofie Højgaard (DK)
Soulmades
30.10–29.11.2026
SPARK
Båstadsgatan 4, Malmö

SPARK is happy to present a new exhibition with Danish architect and assistant professor Sofie Højgaard.

The exhibition Soulmades explores a nearly forgotten architectural tradition: the making of doors, houses, landscapes, and other mades for souls. Through history, architecture has functioned as a mediator between human and non-human worlds, not only organising human activities but also shaping connections to other entities and modes of existence such as the soul.

Soulmades investigates building for souls as an ecological inquiry, drawing on contemporary ecophilosophical theory. If the soul is understood not as individual or immaterial, but rather as something that connects and transcends distinctions between human and non-human, individual and collective, life and death, then the soul becomes a question of relations.

Through a series of projection drawings, collages, and imprints, the exhibition brings together historical examples of architecture for the soul while speculating on contemporary examples that materialise relations between humans, landscapes, and other forms of life.

Sofie Højgaard is an architect, writer, founder of PLATFORM, and study assistant professor at the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen. Her artistic and academic work revolves around ecology and metaphysics, thematising the reciprocal relationship between architecture and cosmology. This theme is researched particularly through investigations of burial grounds, ritual spaces, and conceptions of the afterlife across cultures and historical periods. Through her projects as well as her teaching, she asks how spaces of transition between life and death can take form in a time of a changing worldview.

”Ecological Crafting”
Paul Chung (HK)
2026.10.10 – 2026.10.25
SPARK Architectural Residency 2026

In his first solo presentation in Scandinavia, Hong Kong-based cross-disciplinary spatial designer Paul Chung presents the outcomes of his 1-month SPARK Architectural residency placed at the Ifö Center in Bromölla, Sweden. Centered around the core proposition What if nature comes first?, the project explores how humans can rediscover a humble dialogue when confronting nature and industrial history.

Can industrial legacy work as a catalyst for Ecological Restoration?
The residency seeks to translate the conflict between industrial output and natural resilience into a coherent, field-tested architectural proposal, exploring how industrial legacy can serve as a catalyst for ecological restoration.

Paul Chung (HK) is a multidisciplinary practitioner operating at the intersection of architecture, digital fabrication, and ecological restoration. He was selected for the SPARK residency among more than 200 applicatants based on his project proposal which aimed to ”transform the industrial history of [Ifö Center] and the Skåne region into a tangible, regenerative future.”

The SPARK residency programme 2026
took place in collaboration with Ifö Center @ifocenter and is kindly funded by Region Skåne @regionskane.

Welcome to SPARK during Malmö Gallerihelg. The exhibition ”Could You Live Here?” explores the latent potential of buildings that are no longer considered viable within current models and practices. Through an inventory, generative AI, plans, regulations, and evaluations of cost and climate impact, the project develops feasible scenarios within existing space and structure. A deeper case study of Instrumentet 17 in Örnsberg investigates how a 1950s and 1960s building once planned for demolition could support new ways of living and working. Led by Henrik Almquist, Agency for Adaptive Architecture.

An update from the SPARK residency 2026 with Paul Chung (HK). ✨

Paul is now busy doing material driven experiments with local findings, combined with geological materials like raw clay and agricultural fibers.

Paul is a multidisciplinary practitioner operating at the intersection of architecture, digital fabrication, and ecological restoration. His work is driven by a fascination with the ’latent potential’ within industrial leftovers—transforming what is discarded into structures that foster life. ”Can industrial legacy can serve as a catalyst for ecological restoration?”

The residency is taking place in Aug-Sept in collaboration with @ifocenter. ”What If Nature Comes First?” is the theme of OAT and is a satellite contribution to the triennale.

Thank you everyone who came to the opening last night of ”Could You Live Here?”. ✨

Could You Live Here? started with the end question from the notion that we no longer can see what an existing space and structure offers us and what it could become. After an inventory of a building, the project shows the design universe of the scenarios that fits within the existing framework. Ideated and visualised with image diffusion (generative AI), cost and climate impact evaluated with LLM and pure engineering, understood through plan and regulations – the quality and richness is taking form in possible and feasible futures.

Henrik Almquist is an architect SAR/MSA and founder of Agency for Adaptive Architecture. His work spans practice, research and teaching at Lund University, with a focus on unlocking the possibilities of the existing built environment.

New exhibition opening ✨
Agency for Adaptive Architecture
/Could You Live Here?/
SPARK
2026.09.04—2026.09.27
Opening Friday 4 Sept, 17-20⭐️
Båstadsgatan 4, Malmö

The way we live and work in the city is rapidly changing. Some buildings are not agile enough to respond to – new needs, the expectations from the surrounding city or solving its own technical problems. Within our current models and practices, they are ruled out, but if we take a closer look, could they be hiding a latent potential?

Could You Live Here? started with the end question from the notion that we no longer can see what an existing space and structure offers us and what it could become. After an inventory of a building, the project shows the design universe of the scenarios that fits within the existing framework. Ideated and visualised with image diffusion (generative AI), cost and climate impact evaluated with LLM and pure engineering, understood through plan and regulations – the quality and richness is taking form in possible and feasible futures.

After following the development of several office, industrial and hospital properties, a deeper case study of Instrumentet 17 in Örnsberg, Stockholm, was carried out in collaboration with Riksbyggen. The future of the building, built in stages during the 1950s and 1960s and once planned for demolition, changed course as the planning process increasingly recognised the need for preservation.
Potential renovation scenarios explore the way forward and how the building could support new ways of use.

John Håkansson
Peter Celsing’s Architecture
Photographs, Book and Objects
2026.04.10–2026.05.24
SPARK

Peter Celsing (1920–74) developed an architecture that combines functionalism with artistic rigor. His approach to assignments shows a deep understanding of architecture as an art form where function and economy are balanced. Even when the construction industry changed from the more small-scale and artisanal to the large-scale and prefabricated, Celsing still managed to run his projects with a high artistic integrity, regardless of whether they were purely utility projects such as metro stations, sacred spaces such as churches or prestigious buildings such as the Kulturhuset or the Sveriges Riksbank.

In the exhibition at SPARK, artist John Håkansson shows black and white photographs of Peter Celsing’s architecture. The images, which were taken in the mid-1990s, constitute a valuable document of the time, as some buildings have changed over time. A large selection is published in a newly published book, published by the Swiss publisher Park Books. In addition to John’s images, it contains essays by architect Staffan Henriksson and artist Maria Lantz. The book is also presented at the exhibition in the form of a special edition, with a handmade box and attached silver gelatin photograph. In the exhibition, John also shows a new building-like object in recycled wood and wool yarn.

John Håkansson is a Swedish artist who primarily works with photography. He studied photography at the University of Gothenburg’s School of Photography, the Konstfacket School of Photography in Stockholm and the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm. He often works in series, with repetition and sequences over varying periods of time. He has participated in several exhibitions, received scholarships and published four books: Architecture by Peter Celsing, Photographed by John Håkansson at Park Books, Liten: Berg at Bam Boom Books, Nearby at Trema förlag and Vita husen at Trema förlag. #celsing #architecture #photography #blackandwhite #parkbooks

”What Do You Want, Brick?”

09.10–23.11.2025

”What Do You Want, Brick?” presents the ongoing work on a new mobility hub in Hyllie, Malmö, designed by OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen, Krupinski/Krupinska and artist Akane Moriyama.

Hyllie is located at the edge of Söderslätt, surrounded by Sweden’s most fertile lands which have gradually woven together with the city. This soil, both rich and culturally significant, is a central starting point for the project. The building’s facade consists of reclaimed brick whose variations in rhythm, scale and color reflect the layers embedded in the landscape. Up close, a tactile, patinated materiality emerges, while the whole at a distance takes on a more abstract, almost textile-like expression.

”What Do You Want, Brick?” examines this duality – between soil and city, between the concrete and the abstract.
