Home team.

Dayton 2026 marked my return to open class competition since I aged out in PIO Semis of 2018. 4 attempts at making it to the big stage, with all 4 attempts resulting in falling short.

Going to Dayton with Sparta Indoor Percussion was a last-minute deal. 2 weeks ago, I was planning on staying at home, watching and supporting Saratoga from the comfort of my home.

Through a simple ask, I managed to find myself in Ohio again, feeling like I was meant to be there. The goal was simple: get Sparta to the finish line. Not only have they made history by making it to finals on their first excursion out, they smashed expectations by proving they had a place at the UD Arena. This was the first time a norcal Independent open group made it since Norcal Indoor back in 2017

Due to a huge life-changing event, I took an indefinite hiatus from teaching at Saratoga High School to focus on family. I knew this was going to be a tough one considering the sheer amount of Seniors in the program I've taught and have impacted.

Watching them have their last performance in person, being there in the lot, I cried the hardest I've cried in Dayton since 2023. Seeing something you've built become bigger after you've left is a bittersweet feeling of pride and sadness.

Thank you Dayton 2026. I may have played a small part in this year's activities, but someone told me this was like the last stretch of climbing Mount Everest. A culmination of the pain and experience I've built after 8 trips out.

Norcal is the home I've built. I'm glad to have found home again.

Imposter syndrome hits hard when you’re surrounded by people with way more music experience…

(4/5/25) 1st Place @ NCPA Champs (83.075)! I never thought I’d be part of an independent group, let alone be a piano soloist. I couldn’t ask for a better first independent season, thanks to all the members and the godly, stacked pit staff, Josh, Anna, Taiga, Alex, & Sarah. As some would say that they have no regrets, I do quite in fact regret not talking to everyone, but from the people I’ve gotten to know so far—I’m going to miss them so much. I guess my social anxiety was an OBSTACLE to “overcome” (relating to the show theme), but I look forward to overcoming that obstacle as I become part of more groups in the future.

Reflection is a show that absolutely resonates with me. Since high school, I struggled with insecurities—self-image, social anxiety—so much that I was harsh on myself, trying to change who I am. Every time I played my solo and listened to the narration, I got emotional remembering what I went through…

Am I doing enough as a performer?
Am I doing enough as an educator?
Am I doing enough in my relationships?
Am I doing enough in this... or that... ?

Am I… enough?

But through this season and the incredible people that I got to know, I’ve started to accept my “reflection” and who I am. I can’t wait to see what this experience will bring to me in the future (teaching-wise/performing-wise)…

Also, first full year of teaching Foothill HS! Like last season, I learned a LOT of things to become a better technician. This season, I was more part of the design team for their show, Structure, specifically sound design. I’m so proud of what I designed for them and how the synth performers brought it to life. To Anna and Sindhuraa, I am super proud of you guys for persevering through most of the season without me, having to deal with electronics, giving your best performance, and getting back on playing piano/learning piano for the first time! I look forward to what Foothill has in store next year…

Side 1 & rhythm section 🔛🔝!
