My cats and my dog in another Instagram-stitched reel. It’s clips of my video “shorts” that I save in the Story Highlight circles on my Instagram page. @stacyincarmel Scroll left 👈 at the horizontal circles on my profile page. There are dozens and dozens of circles. That's where you can see the clips of Bitcoin and Leo, my cats. And Nashville, my dog. It’s extra content of Carmel and places I travel to. It's different from my reels because they are mostly short-form video content. As always, click @stacyincarmel to find more 🔎. P.S. All of our pets were rescued from the @spcamc

Karomi would hike all day if she (or I) could! I had a magical morning with this happy and smart young pup. She’s so quick to pick up new things and loves to meet anyone and everyone. If you don’t see the point in a rest break after a long uphill climb, she’s your gal! Adopt Karomi at the @spcamc !

Happy Weird Duck Wednesday! This week, I wanted to talk a bit about how to look out for “weird ducks” this winter, and what to do if you think you see a stranded bird. We’ll be focusing on the Western Grebe (not a duck) as our highlighted weird “duck,” but this info can certainly be applied to other species! These close-up photos were taken in an EXTREMELY unique situation. This Western Grebe and Common Murre were both washed up in an estuary after some large storms on the coast. Grebes and Murres rarely wander onto land during non-breeding season (winter). Both birds, although in separate families, have feet that are optimized for swimming and diving, and not for agility on land. These two birds were dehydrated and clearly exhausted, and unable to move themselves back into the shallow estuary. Grebes are extra susceptible to being washed up during winter storms, as they spend the vast majority of their lives in the water, but unlike true pelagic birds, they are usually close to land. Before approaching the birds, I called my local wildlife rescue. They instructed me to slowly approach the birds to see if they would move back into the water. I let the rescue staff know that the birds did not move but that they seemed aware of me. I keep a large box, gloves, and towels in my car, so the rescue staff instructed me to safely get the birds into towels and into the box; they provided clear step-by-step instructions! Check out the comments for some specifics to keep in mind if you think you might see a stranded bird. Let’s look out for weird ducks this weird duck winter! #westerngrebe #weirdduckwinter #naturalist #birding #wildliferescue
