What a massive and crisp bass sound. Beautiful playing by Spencer Philips @spdoublebass, Alex Burns beautiful Pöllmann bass @poellmann_krahmer, beautiful bow by Brianna Goldberg @bg_bows, beautiful location @isb_world and the strings are ok too 🙃
Btw, just 2h breaking in time, so excuse a little metallic sound.

The Baroque Bass Bash 2024 was four days of sheer joy! I loved working with this outstanding and inquisitive group of bassists and with the crackerjack team of HP specialists who collaborated with us.

We had repertoire & technique group class each morning and worked through Bach Magnificat and Corrette’s “Le phénix”. After lunch, we had beginning viol class, because it’s so much easier to understand gut strings when they’re thinner and more flexible.

Afternoons and evenings were dedicated to individual chamber music coachings. Each bassist had instrumental and vocal repertoire specifically chosen for their circumstances and experience, and accompanied seasoned early music specialists, who all weighed in on what they needed from their 16’ player. This was super informative! And got us ready for a public performance.

Warmest thanks to the fabulous Maggie Urquhart for sharing her research on Bach’s violone with us, to Church of the Good Shepherd, Rosemont PA for hosting us, to the VdGSA for workshop support, and to all who contributed to our scholarship fund.

What happens when your bass meets the bassist? You get Friends in Low Places!!

As part of our Wagner in Vermont festival concerts in 2023, bass @kirkeichelberger joined forces with bassist @spdoublebass for a totally serious concert...that is, until we named it for them 😂 They are joined by @hughkeelan at the piano.

Enjoy this wonderful collaboration, and check out the rest of this, which features works by Wolf and Mozart, over on our YouTube Channel.
