On December 14th, 2023, all roads led to Ghana for @alkebulan_cypher. A week-long event that brought together dance enthusiasts, dance makers, poets, and community organizers from all corners of the globe.  During this event, we hosted the 2nd edition of the Speaking Dance panel discussion in collaboration with @steeze_afrika, highlighting some of the most notable figures in the African dance industry from both the continent and the diaspora.  The panel commenced with a captivating performance by @thedavidodiase, setting the stage for an insightful conversation featuring @Kayso, @eddielove_, @selasidogbatse, and @obiajuluozegbe, moderated by @phaith.ot.  The panel-themed “Harmony in Motion: collaboration across Borders”, explored the reimagined influence of African street dance on a global scale, personal experience, and strategies to foster inclusivity, and built bridges to enhance the African dance community.  . . Watch the short film Coast to Coast. Link in the bio! Since 2022, we’ve been experimenting with an idea that adopts an ethnographic and anthropological approach through filmmaking to document and examine how dance festivals in Africa serve as a powerful cultural expression—fostering cross-cultural literacy, community, and capacity building while bridging societal divides (whether ethnic, racial, generational, class, or geographic) and celebrate our shared humanity. What began as a creative exploration has evolved into DanceFrame, a program under @livewithbeghast. Through DanceFrame, we collaborate with dance festivals and events across Africa to provide media production services committed to inspiring new narratives about intangible African creativity, specifically dance through documentary films. Our work aims to preserve contemporary dance heritage in the digital age, encourage systematic change through the arts, and address the lack of dance-center and African documentaries, all while amplifying our vibrant dance culture through storytelling. Over the years, we’ve collaborated with more than seven dance festivals and events across Nigeria, Ghana, and Benin. Now, we’re working to expand across West Africa—and then the rest of the continent. We invite you to join us on this transformative journey.
