It took me a while to appreciate just how good the Velcro strap looks on the Omega Speedmaster “Alaska Project.” 😅.

I’ve tried it on the original steel bracelet, a black racing-style leather strap and the new steel bracelet, but somehow, this one just feels right. At least for now, the Velcro strap wins! 👌

And it’s not just about looks. The Alaska Project has some pretty cool history behind it. Originally developed in the 1970s as a potential successor to the Moonwatch, the project was designed to create a Speedmaster capable of withstanding the extreme temperature variations of space. The original concept featured a titanium case and a distinctive removable red thermal shield to protect the watch from extreme heat and cold.

Omega eventually released the modern Speedmaster “Alaska Project” in 2008, inspired by those NASA-era prototypes and limited to 1,970 pieces.

That iconic white dial, the capsule shaped subdials hands and the unmistakable red chrono hand make it stand out from the crowd. And paired with the Velcro strap? It really brings out that space-exploration DNA. 🚀🌕
