Our Live Auction subcommittee chair is Kathleen Cutting, a Masters student at the University of Arkansas studying the spatial and temporal patterns in biogeochemistry in an intermittent agricultural stream as a part of the collaborative QuEST project. Pictured are some animals she runs into in the field. She first got involved with SFS through her advisor and SRC alumni, Dr. Shannon Speir. Her favorite part of the program is working with her colleagues and the excitement and collaborative spirit each person brings. Fun fact about Kathleen, she went skydiving when she went to Namibia for an environmental field course in her undergrad at Rhodes! Kathleen, you are awesome and thank you for your contribution to the SRC! Woo pig!

Dr. Shannon Speir of The University of Arkansas, Fayetteville is leading the development of a water quality research agenda in the Mississippi River Basin states as a part of an EPA Cooperative Agreement. Currently, this is being addressed via two efforts: 1️⃣ Developing a database of researchers working on water quality in MRB states to facilitate collaboration and cross-talk among efforts going on across the basin 2️⃣ Writing literature reviews on seven priority areas in water quality identified by the Hypoxia Task Force Research Needs Working Group to assess current state of the research and clearly identify gaps moving forward This project is a part of the USDA NIFA SERA-46 Multistate Project (https://www.sera46.org/); however, these opportunities are open to all researchers in MRB states. If you are interested in joining the researcher database (which will be made available publicly) or participating in/leading a literature review, please sign up via the links below: ➡ Researcher Database: https://forms.gle/Vm6HybQfweHTYmpq5 ➡ Literature Review Interest Form: https://forms.gle/7Gc28Qrm5a9pW4a2A Email Dr. Speir with any questions at slspeir@uark.edu!
