Spell ✨ explores the exhaustion of the refugee experience. Igor Shyshko explains that the performance starts with carrying stones while attempting a classical Russian dance, symbolizing the struggle of fleeing war and being unwelcome. While he found stability, many refugees have nowhere to go.

The ritualistic piece, featuring Shyshko and Albina Vakhitova, delves into somatic resistance and the reappropriation of pain, fear, and memory. They struggle to shed the burdens of homeland and identity, seeking a new reality. A text by Elke Van Campenhout expresses the complexities of pain, joy, and uncertainty, focusing on the existential challenges of immigrants and cultural workers today.

+++ On Saturday 16.November (17:30) and Sunday 17.November (17:00) SPELL by our Kunst/Werk satellite Igor Shyshko at Voices festival in Berlin +++

WELCOME!

https://voices-program.com/

Spell is a ritual choreography of exhaustion and ambiguity, a magical journey through repetition, ecstasy, and transformation.
There is a power in repetition that works almost like a spell.
Repeating the same gesture over and over charges it with defiant power, turning it into a form of political resistance. Spell is an embodied incantation that defies the impotence of our daily resistances to the chaos that surrounds us. In a magical gesture, we reclaim and transform our daily life actions, into a whirling web of somatic reimagination.

with Albina Vakhitova, Elke Van Campenhout, Spela Tusar, NEXCYIA.

You lead me down, to the ocean
So lead me down, by the ocean
You know it’s been a long time,
You always leave me tongue tied
And all this times for us
I love you just because
You lead me down, to the ocean
The world is fine, by the ocean
You know this time’s for real
It helps the heart to heal
You know it breaks the seal of the talisman that harms
And so you look at me and need
The space that means as much to me
So lead me down, to the ocean
Our world is fine, by the ocean
You know the way it is in life, it’s so hard to live up to
So why are you still dressed in your mourning suit
I assume, I assume
You’ll lead me down, to the ocean
Don’t leave me down, by the ocean
The ocean.
Here comes the wave, here comes the wave
Here comes the wave, down by the ocean
The ocean (repeat to fade)
@richardhawley #ocean . How I wish we could all be as free as the sea..REPEAT TO FADE 🌊. #sea #side #horizon #free
