Time for something different... ⁣
⁣
Every day this week we’ll be running Insta Story head-to-head polls of our all-time men’s World Champs to see who is crowned Champion of Champions! Scientific it isn’t, but after a random draw this is how the first rounds look 👀.⁣
⁣
You’ll have 1️⃣ hour to vote on the two preliminary head-to-heads then its 2️⃣4️⃣ hours to get behind your favourites in the round of 16... ⁣
3... 2... 1... let’s go! ⁣
⁣
(Women’s champs next week)⁣

#tbt and watching @spencerwtsmith smash everyone at the 1994 world championships in Wellington, New Zealand. Probably one of the toughest worlds with a blowing southerly gale. I remember finishing way back in 46th place in the elite men’s event. Had to laugh at the finish line tape with the major spelling mistake. “Wolrd” #ituworlds94 #triathlon

Early ‘90’s saw some amazing kiwi’s building innovative bikes. Paul Allen designed and built this,650c wheels, upright seat post. Spencer Smith won the 1994 world triathlon champs in Wellington, New Zealand on one of these. #forza! #650c #worldchampion #triathlon #corima #discwheel #cinelli #aluminium #duraace #innovative @fjnebdvd #forzabikes

Class of 1993 - Great to share dinner and wine with old mates from the racing circuit! #BradBeven was probably the most consistent ITU racer of our era, with a fitness base unparalleled in the sport. 4 ITU World Cup series wins and 14 World Cup victories, 7 time F1 Champion and ITU hall of fame! 3 time World Champion #SpencerSmith was the first British athlete to ever win a triathlon world title (junior) and then the youngest Professional World Champion in triathlon history winning the elite title in 1993, still eligible for juniors! First triathlete to ever win two ITU world titles and to defend the title he owned in 1994! The days of non drafting ITU racing finished with Spencer! He set the foundation (Alongside of Simon Lessing) of what is the current dominance of British Triathlon globally! @clintbarter my childhood training partner, and the guy who got me into triathlon still holds AUSTRALIAN Schoolboy 800m running records and was a multiple junior AUSTRALIAN Athletics and Triathlon representative! Of course @mgsportoga who has been the glue in many of our careers! Great evening on the eve of race 1 of @superleaguetriathlon Hamilton Island! Going to be seriously hot, humid, fast and strategically amazing! #BeBetter Game On #triathlon #triathlete #WorldChampions #HamiltonIsland

Throwing waaay back to 1993 #tbt for a solid reminder that once upon a time, @ironmantri was not all skinsuits and aero helmets! There was a time when shorts and crop top and some hardy determination were more than enough - right @eugenekertzman? 🏊🏽‍♀️🚴🏽‍♂️🏃🏽‍♂️
.
😄 Bonus #throwback if you swipe across ➡️- just a baby me hanging out with the world champ @spencerwtsmith 🏆at the time, none too happy about being dangled over a swimming pool! 🤣 Clearly me and the pool have never been best buds 😂
