Over the course of this year through 2027 I am conducting a series of live art experiments that explore concepts of Black social death, signifiers replacing the signified among other themes yet to be discovered. This collection of work is titled “Father’s Side Fore Thanks Given”.

I have a 7k - 10k fundraising goal to make this work come to light.

Consider supporting this work by making a tax deductible donation thanks for my fiscal sponsorship @nylivearts through the link in my bi0.

My work is primarily self funded. I believe in adequate pay for all my future collaborators.

If you’d like to know more about this work and a detailed fundraising timeline and breakdown please reach out to me via email @immanuelj.artist@gmail.com.

Anything helps.

“The Difference” is OUT 📺₊ ⊹𖦹 it’s the closest i’ve gotten to making a song feel tangible in its emotion. it’s about dissociation, something i’ve struggled with for so long, something i didn’t know i was able to embrace until i wrote this.

my VERY FIRST music video is also out with this one ^_^ the vision for this song followed me in my sleep, & i’m so relieved that it finally has a place to live outside of my head.

to my band (@mhoj_music @loganguitarnbass @nik.estelami), i remember bringing you this song & how quickly you all poured yourselves into it. because of that, it didn’t take us very long to create what it sounds like now (like, literally in one hour during rehearsal 0_o). working with you guys always feels like magic, & there’s no one else we’d rather have captured it than @lindscadwell. how did i get so lucky

In Glue Traps, @spencevaz (2018 Film, 2019 Photography) attempts to reckon with his own archive. Prompted by the discovery of a long-lost hard drive and the death of his father, a housepainter, Spencer began asking how he might engage again with the sprawling photo diary he had assembled over the last decade. At the heart of this work is tape transferring, a widely accessible yet labor-intensive process in which toner prints are transferred onto adhesive tape, producing images in reverse through a sequence of rubbing, soaking, and peeling.

Want to learn more about the process? Join Spencer for a tape transfer workshop at @baxterstccny, June 6 at 12 PM. Space is limited, RSVP at the link in bio.

Glue Traps by Spencer Vazquez is on view @baxterstccny in partnership with YoungArts now through June 10!

As the art world flocks to Venice, we’ve collected a slate of exhibitions and gallery shows you won’t want to miss in New York City this week—highlighting everything from @studiomuseum’s “Fade,” the sixth edition of the “F” shows, a series of group exhibitions feature work by emerging artists of African descent, to presentation of the work of David Hammons and Jannis Kounellis @whitecube, the first two-person exhibition of their work in over 30 years.
