Tonight, I had the pleasure of speaking with students from the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Texas Tech University Chapter, Texas Tech University AADE Student Chapter, and Texas Tech IADC Student Chapter. I shared experiences and lessons from a career that has taken me around the world, including my time with Anadarko, Chevron, and Subsurface Consultants & Associates, as well as my involvement in volunteer leadership roles with SPE. We discussed how to make the most of attending SPE ATCE 2026 by developing a strategic plan before arriving—setting goals, identifying people and opportunities to connect with, and being intentional about how to invest your time. I also challenged the TTU students to read my latest SPE President’s Column, published today in the Journal of Petroleum Technology (JPT): “Make the Most of ATCE 2026: A Strategic Investment in Your Career and Organization” We also discussed the value of SPE student membership and, importantly, how students can continue building relationships, contributing to their profession, and staying engaged with professional societies throughout their careers after graduation. It was a great evening with an impressive group of students who are already thinking about how they can learn, connect, contribute, and lead in our industry. #WeAreSPE #TexasTech #AADE #IADC #PetroleumEngineering #OilAndGas #Leadership #NextGeneration #StudentChapter #LearnShareConnectGrow

First time in Lubbock did not disappoint. Had an absolute blast last night at Texas Tech University talking to the Society of Petroleum Engineers - Texas Tech University Chapter , Texas Tech University AADE student chapter, and IADC student chapters. We may have been scheduled 6 to 8. We should have updated that time to 6 to 9:30! It was invigorating to bring my seminar Launch with Confidence to campus to help students with their soft skills, which accounts for 85% of our career success, and help build their confidence as they approach their upcoming career fair on Tuesday. If you’re an operator or service company headed to Lubbock on Tuesday, get ready. You’re going to have a lot of bright students, and they’re going to be ready for you. Yes, I had to hit up Spanky’s...10/10.

During my conversation with Dr. Bob Barree Petroleum Engineer it was an extremely loud area so apologies for the audio. It's me. You already know I make a lot of mistakes. Fortunately I was able to salvage and repair the abysmal audio by using lots of AI tools. Far from perfect as usual. Took me a while and plenty of room to improve. Without Bob would AI even exist? Less energy available for us? Possibly the reason I met him? Among all valued moments, opportunities, and questions in this industry can be completely unplanned and often accompanied by my mistakes to learn even more. While attending Society of Petroleum Engineers International event, Dr. Robert D. Barree gives insight about his career, the evolution of our industry, and the future of oil & gas. He has an impressive and impactful reputation, accomplishments, and influence across the #energy sector. I say as others do that he invented #frac and was willing to stop and share knowledge, saying a lot about both the man and the culture that built our #oilgas industry. Among hydraulic fracturing, completions, stimulation, and reservoir engineering professionals, Dr. Barree is widely recognized as a pioneer who shaped modern unconventional reservoir development. As founder of Barree & Associates and the primary author behind the GOHFER hydraulic fracture simulator, his technical work has influenced fracture modeling, diagnostics, completion optimization, and stimulation strategy across major shale plays and unconventional developments for decades. The impact of that work reaches far beyond software or engineering papers. It helped shape how operators understand fractures, production behavior, reservoir stimulation, and completion effectiveness in the modern shale era. Technical knowledge from decades spent solving real field problems, watching the industry evolve, challenging assumptions, while moving oil & gas technology forward through multiple generations of change. Technology changes, basins mature, strategies evolve, markets fluctuate... conversations like this are important to me because I hope to preserve experiences and insights that can't be downloaded from a spreadsheet or copied from
