One thing I regularly see with MMA fighters: they’re not necessarily injured it’s that they’re simply carrying the previous session into the next one.

Stiff hips from grappling, tight forearms from gripping, restricted shoulders from striking and ankles taking repeated load through footwork and sprawls can all affect how well you move and train.

Recovery work isn’t only for when something goes wrong. Sports massage, soft-tissue treatment and simple mobility work can help reduce accumulated stiffness, restore movement and get your body better prepared to go again.

My latest article looks at the demands MMA places on the body and includes five simple mobility drills for before training, after training or recovery days.

Appointments are also available at Kinesis Performance in Welwyn Garden City and @watford.tactical.fighting

Not long ago it was 1 or 2 people on the mats night after night. I sat there wondering if opening a gym and giving up my own time to teach was the wrong move for my career, in a sport with hardly any money in it.

Now I look at how the team has grown and the community we've built and I honestly don't think there's a better club to be part of.

No negative egos. A team that looks after each other and will call anyone out who steps out of line, myself included. I'm not above anyone. I just know a thing or two about Jiu-Jitsu 🥋

This is what it's all about. Grateful for every single one of you 🙏
