Still sitting with this moment… 🌿🔥 Last year during milkweed and berry picking season on the Onondaga Nation Farm, I had the opportunity to walk the land with Chef Pyet from Spirit Plate on PBS. I absolutely love her and her crew! We spent time foraging, sharing knowledge, and being present with the land in a real way. Seeing that moment come back around now… it hit me deeper than I expected. I cried. I never watch my media, but this one 🫶 Because this work—our work—is being seen. Because the timing is aligned. Because everything we’ve been building is rooted in something real. One thing she said that will stay with me: “We are learning how to eat with the land, not eat off the land.” That’s the teaching. That’s the shift. That’s the responsibility. Grateful for that day. Grateful for the land. Grateful for everyone walking this path together. #SpiritPlatePBS #TEK #IndigenousFoodways #FoodSovereignty #EatWithTheLan

When Charlie Perry shared Spirit Plate at the NAACP Hollywood Bureau during Native American Heritage Month, it opened a moment of reflection on the layered, complex experiences of Indigenous Americans and African Americans. Charlie began the day with a land acknowledgement that grounded us in the history beneath our feet and the ongoing fight for Indigenous food sovereignty. Through food, story, and shared history, we build bridges and commit to understanding the full complexity of our story as Americans.
