I’ve been meaning to post some Bead Project memories; after leading five cycles I am taking a step back and will no longer be the BP Director. This was a tough decision because it’s been one of the most amazing & rewarding work/teaching experiences of my life. Between planning demos, field trips, visiting artists, guest speakers, and getting everyone to the trunk show, ten slides does not cut it! The gratitude students expressed kept me going and in many ways the program changed my life, too. I’m glad that I will still be involved in the program through participation in the Bead Project Alumni Panel. Thank you everyone in the studio @urbanglass_nyc as well as the EDU team for being amazing coworkers! And a huge thanks to all the TAs, students, the alumni who return… you made this experience incredible and you make the program everything that it is.

How do I document my first artist residency but also fully be present in the creation process? And how much time does it really take to settle my laptop-email inbox-work brain before that sweet spark of creativity kicks in at the studio?

OR is the compulsion to mind untangle personal + work knots just an inevitable human experience during a meditative art practice? Or meditation in general? Is art, therapy? (yess.)

And is that why I’m always in and out of unexpected emotions during long studio hours, or is it just life right now, or is it the pull of the full moon?

Questions questions questions. No answers needed, just stare into the flame and create.
