Introducing Liquid Monolith
.
Super excited to finally share this one Liquid Monolith is a custom built midi controlled visualizer that I've been working on for some time now.
Back in 2017 I started falling down the rabbit hole of doing generative live visuals for shows. At the time there wasn't much of a scene other than country and bluegrass in the area so I didn't end up doing too much publicly.
But around a year ago I met @splat.daddy and @rippledriftcollective while doing some live art out at Betsy's. Watching them work blew me away, I was glued to their monitor the entire night watching endless impossible geometry just pour out of their fingertips. They were kind enough to let me nerd out with them about the tech and setup they were using and even let me have a hand at playing with their rig for a few songs.
Since then I have been completely hooked and have spent countless hours falling down the rabbit hole of video feedback synthesis.
I had started off learning the ins and outs of the Waaave_Pool RPI created by the legendary @andrei_jay_video_wizard his research and documentation into this field was an essential starting place in my research. I had actually taken some creative coding classes from Andrei back in 2018 when I first started this journey. For about a year I stuck with the RPI version of waaavepool but a few months ago the DSK version was released. At first, I had mixed feelings about the dsk there were some new features that felt essential and then there were some essential features from the RPI version that felt like they were missing.
This pushed me into digging into the code and seeing what I could replicate that I liked from the RPI. At first it was just a few simple mods like changing the midi layout and adding layer switching, then came adding the ability to save and recall scenes, bpm control. At that point I had caught the bug and couldn't stop.

FULL DISCLOSURE!! AI WAS USED TO HELP RESEARCH AND DEVELOP CODE AFTER THIS POINT
I am open to discussion on the ethical nature of using AI as a tool in coding. But I will probably delve into that more in the next post and go more into the challenges faced due to that decision
