Finally sharing this Google commission from a series of paintings created for Google Gradient Canopy headquarters in Mountain View, CA:

‘Amongst Giants,’ 10 x 22 ft. (diptych), Acrylic on canvas, 2023

“‘Amongst Giants,’ a 10 x 22 ft. diptych, evokes the extreme verticality and physicality of the California coastal redwoods: some of the tallest trees on earth. 🌲

This work captures the dizzying sensation of looking upward towards the canopy through high color contrast and an energetic use of mark-making. The sense of grandeur and awe felt being surrounded by these giants is reflected in the massive scale of Mueller’s paintings.

The meaning behind the paintings’ title is two-fold: located in the heart of Silicon Valley within one of the largest tech companies in the world and surrounded by titans of industry, Mueller’s work reflects on notions of scale, extreme growth, disorientation, and reference to both the natural landscapes and tech landscapes they’re situated within.”

Special thank you to the teams at @spmdesign, @basbars, & @atthowefineartservices 🌪️

Finally sharing this Google commission from a series of paintings created for Google Gradient Canopy headquarters in Mountain View, CA:

‘In the Valley,’ 9 x 19 ft., Acrylic on canvas, 2023

“This long panoramic painting captures the rolling sensation of the foothills, and gradual shifts in depth of field experienced while driving through these sloping valleys, with their large, sweeping gestures and use of color.

Mueller’s abstract approach to landscape is meant to evoke the overall feeling of these environments specific to Northern California. The title’s double entendre in reference to ‘the valley’ alludes to both the natural and tech landscapes of the Bay Area.”

These paintings were produced during an intensive 3-month period (while juggling several other big projects) and installed over a whirlwind weekend thanks to the teams at @spmdesign, @basbars, & @atthowefineartservices 🌪️

Today marks five years since I left my ‘day job’ in higher education to pursue my artistic practice full-time (on tax day, fittingly) 🖐️

In honor of this “work anniversary” I wanted to share a look back on the past five years and some of the projects I’m most proud of…

The seasonal ebbs and flows of sustaining a creative life can feel like a high-wire act at times, but I’m immensely grateful for all the opportunities and growth I’ve experienced so far—

This morning I sent out a studio newsletter with some reflections on the past five years of growing my painting practice. I’m also sharing on my website if you’re not on my mailing list (linked in bio).

Thank you to everyone who continues to make this work possible.

Cheers to another five 🥂
