Should your band be on my playlist of local punk?

I grew up with physical media. Tapes, cds, and records. Music videos on mtv or radio stations with yapping VJs/DJs and intrusive ads were the only access I had to certain songs without buying the album.
Then mp3 players hit, loaded with a whopping 30-80 songs. Deciding my soundtrack the night before because I couldn’t fit all the songs I legitimately shared with other people on the internet. With itunes and the 80gb classic iPod, my entire library was now in the palm of my hand with room to spare, and all I could think about was filling it up. Finding more and more music.
Enter pandora and then very shortly after, Spotify. Fucking spotify. Now I have access to nearly any song that I could think of. For an ever increasing price, money that I’m sure makes it to the artists I love and listen to on Spotify and not into the hands of military drone manufacturers.
For now unfortunately, it’s a necessary evil for me. One day when I have the shelf, crate, rack, and wall space and get out of living off of future funds I have plans to invest in artists I care about. In the mean time, if I can’t financially support then I’ll do my damndest to promote them. Using the very beast trying to devour them; spotify.
I’ll try to make this a running series and I’m gonna play around with formatting to see what works. This is just step one in hopefully a long creative journey.

The Sweet Mix by @m1ssmisery_ (featured in Small Talks 001) 🌴

“A playlist highlighting the wonderful indie music scene of the Floridian Gulf Coast alongside similar tracks by their predecessors and up and coming artists. Featuring the sounds of indie-rock, alternative, punk, folk and lofi.”

Check out tunes from @bedsidekites, @mrcameron_winter, @therealylt, @rocketninetyseven, @palinfinity, and some cuts from the @weresweetgirls mixtapes

*Note*

Thanks to everyone so so much for supporting our first time on PRINT (emo post later🥀🥀). It has been brought to our attention that we have a faulty QR code to “The Sweet Mix” on our first run. We apologize for any confusion this might’ve caused and it will be fixed upon reprint. But for now, the mix is active on our YouTube page, accessible through our Linktree, and scannable through the QR code of this post. While we create our order forms, please note that the copy you’ll be receiving will come with a print of the new code in your package.

It’s days like this I curse Big T*ch for the invention of the QR code, and lament the assumed“decline” of physical media (collectors lemme hear yall make some noise) 💿😉. Neverthelesssss thank you thank you so much and we present to you: The Sweet Mix from Small Talks 001 🩷

A few moments from our going away party at @webbscitycellar last month 🥲

Thank you @ladylazaruss for making sure we had some nice photos 🥲💞 BTW, going forward—getting a photog for sentimental events is really important and something I’m going to make sure I prioritize more. I try to take photos but I also hate having my phone in my hand when I’m with loved ones. You just get so busy living in the moment and the night is over before you know it, so get someone else to take pics.

Thank you to everyone who came out and sent us off! We are so grateful for our Tampa Bay family and we’ll see you soon!

We’re Sweet Girls is changing the St. Pete music scene 💖

Comment DANCE to read the full article

In an Our Music Our Body survey from 2017, 92% of female fans reported experiencing harassment at a music festival. In a more direct example, a reporter for TeenVogue was groped 22 times in 10 hours at Coachella in 2018 while writing a story on sexual assault at music festivals.

Further, in the past 17 years, Coachella has had well over seven reported and verified sexual assaults.

These are a few of the statistics that inspired Zoe Robinson, known to many as Fesssi K, to work with other St. Pete artists to create @weresweetgirls.

They have worked to create shows and events that are safe and welcoming while also celebrating diverse art forms.
