haystack session 4 2026 pt. 1

it’s hard to find words for this but you feel it- when you see the way being at haystack makes people feel so profoundly connected, joyful, restored, supported, and changed.

on deer isle you might see a seal, a porpoise, the milky way, shooting stars like fireballs, lichen dancing, fog tumbling, mycelium breathing.

experimental paper sculpting with @spookah and @sophiehemphill - an unforgettable, spiritual, and deeply inspiring journey. your teaching, guidance, kindness, and your being so present with us was the greatest gift. papermaking/paper clay is an unbelievable medium and i am beyond thankful for everything we learned and for every moment our group spent together.

posting about haystack is challenging for me because it’s such a beautiful and intense experience that most words don’t feel adequate. but if you want to know more just ask.👼

After catching my breath here at home in Missouri, @haystack_school still feels like a dream. Thank you to the haystack staff who keep the magic alive at this beautiful place. It’s official I love Maine.

Thank you @nawanasai for sharing your knowledge at the loom, our class had such a fun chemistry. Everyone stayed curious, and supportive of one another. I cannot imagine my first time at Haystack with anyone else!

I met so many wonderful artists and now friends who I cannot believe I haven’t known them for longer. I love craft school, I love community, and those who keep that spirit alive in and outside of these spaces✨✨✨✨

Until next time! 🫶🏼

This summer I was blessed to spend time at @haystack_school through a Haystack-Crafting the Future Fellowship @crafting_the_future. I spent time in nature reflecting, I spent time with incredible, creative people, and I spent time around art.

Thank you so much to @crafting_the_future for providing funding and support so that artist are able to experience and learn at Haystack.

Thank you to everyone at glass for allowing me to hang all the time <3

back from a truly life changing two weeks at @haystack_school in Deer Isle, Maine. I learned experimental papermaking, using paper pulp as a sculptural material and including sustainable foraging into our practice.

Thank you to @spookah for leading our session and sharing her process with us (check out her work!!)

This experience of disconnecting from the digital world, communing with incredible artists from all different backgrounds, making paper in the ocean and living in the beauty of the campus was so so special- I am so thankful 🖤

These hanging sculptural works by @spookah are organic, textured, and stunning to behold. As the light shifts during the day the raw gems, shells, and colored pebbles embedded in her bespoke paper mache clay, glint and shift colors as if by magic.

What a great turnout for our Halloween 🎪 Party @the.silverfern!! Loved seeing all the handmade costumes, so many good ones!!

I made my snake, her name is Sssilvia, my dress was found magically at @livetruevintage, and I helped Austin make his magic sword box costume as well!
