The eyelashes on the horses are bright white, along with the fur of the horse themselves.

Half price Halloween sale for “Lilith.” View & purchase original and prints at this link, http://tiny.cc/anqt001 From Gwen Cates on SaatchiArt.com Or view on GwenCatesGallery.com at this link: http://tiny.cc/ljcm001. When I was doing research for the “Goddess Creating Eve” I ran across information about Lilith who was the first female figure in Adam’s life. Lilith refused to submit to a man. She was a strong being on her own and did not need a man to show her what to do. I paired Lilith with the figure of a horse because it felt right. It could suggest freedom and the natural wild status of a running horse.  Should it not be recognized as one and the same quality? The colors used also suggest an energy that is unbridled and unbroken. #halloweensale, #oilpainting, #biblecharacter, #unbridledwoman, #Unbrokenwoman

A while ago, I was driving along a road where a neighbor had mowed and rolled up bales of hay and I thought they looked remarkable. I took photographs. And then I've done several paintings. The Mystic Hayfield with Round Bales. is almost like a magic flowing out of a golden area in the trees. And it becomes bright and delightful. The farmer near Crozet who has this beautiful field gave me permission to set up my easel and paint.  Later I decided to do this more abstract and mystical version of the hayfield. Alternative description: The farmer near Crozet who has this beautiful field gave me permission to set up my easel to paint. Later I decided to do this more abstract and mystical version of the hayfield. “Mystic” as well as beauty may be in the eye of the beholder but one must admit that these waving lines in the field certainly radiate from a royal purple heart. They bear the rounded bales like fruit from Mother Nature hanging before our eyes. Steven Pressfield made a mystical suggestion in his 1995 book “The Legend of Bagger Vance” that we “See the Field.”

A few years ago, the whole family and I went to Scotland for my granddaughter Catherine's wedding. And I stayed at a place called Fyvie Castle. There were trails down through the woods to different places, That is where there were swans on a lake with the lily pads blooming and the little cygnets, the baby swans floating around with their mothers. And so I had my daughter Ayn send me some photographs that she had done at the time, So I did this painting of the swans on a Scottish lake with their cygnets, the little babies. I really enjoyed painting the swirling water with the dark lines. It's almost like lines of energy running through it. Then as my eyes moved off into the distance, the colors got more pale and there were more swans in the distance with their cygnets. And the one swan standing by itself, just sort of preening by the edge of the water.

View & purchase Gwen’s most recent painting for GwenCatesGallery.com; at: http://tiny.cc/psxo001. There is a family who have planted all kinds of interesting flowers along Powell Creek. And once a year they open up their property for people to come and visit and take a wander along the creek and take pictures if they wish. Not too long ago some friends and I went on a springtime wander along Powell Creek. I was so enchanted by the different flowers I took a lot of photographs and so I did a few paintings. And the one that I have here in this picture is a butterfly that came to the flowers that were drooping down from one of the plants. And I called it Spring Wander with Monarch Butterfly. That was interesting and fun to do.
